just hockey in general.

You'd figure with all that abiding love for hockey, you'd HAPPEN to like one aspect about the Oilers roster. What a weird coincidence.

Two points: our bottom six would look much better if the top 6 weren't in a slump, which i'll admit they are. Further, I wouldn't touch the bottom six or the goaltending until they fix the defense.

Coaching: I really don't think 5 coaches in 6 years would be good for the development of the team and the system. If Boucher wants to come on as an associate coach he'd probably be welcome. I feel like Krueger has brought good things to the club. Indeed, it's a bit rich to say that the teams is flawed in its construction and then turn around and blame the coach for not going from basement to contender.

- Morris

very true rich indeed.

as for boucher I think he would be an overall vetter fit. the bottom 6 is terrible regardless of whether the top 6 are producing. when your big guns are in a slump your bottom 6 dig deep i appreciate the manner in which you pointed out the illogical aspect of my statement. i see semblance of jacques martin in kruegre. just my opi.

no, this is where we question YOUR hockey iq. Have you ever SEEN Kovalev? I've actually been on the ice with him...he is a monster. He does not hit, true, but he wins the puck on the boards and he has sick hands...I don't see Galy hard on the boards either (kind of bad choice of comparison). But I can see the Galy and Kovy comparison.

In all honesty though, I have NEVER seen anyone with skill like Kovalev. Maaaaybe Gretzky. Yes, I'm serious, you have to see Kovalev up close. He takes nights/shifts/months off, true, but his skill is undeniable.

- JLO961

This!!! The same with Jagr. He never hits. but try and take the puck off of that big (frank)er when he doesnt want to give it up. good luck. I have been on the ice with him once and the poop he does out there with being how big he is, is unreal. ok the part about me being on the ice with him is a lie, but you get my point.

i see. uve changed the argument to ur convienence. of course u did.

u mentioned building a team. since our teardown of 2010 was the debate i thought.

u just meant players that play for the oilers full or part time that theyve drafted??
ok then
petry, hartakainen, lander, horcoff, peckham

even hemsky, smyth, dubnyk, prv were drafted by the oil..albeit in the first, if that somehow reflects poorly on them.

hopefully soon marincin, gernat, musil, rieder etc. and all drafted since 2010

- hugefemale dog77

how did i change my arguement?

If by skill you mean stickhandling, then yeah I'll give you that. A ton of guys have better smarts, better vision, better shot and better skating, but the guy has ridiculous stickhandling and creativity thereof.

if u can call the current oilers a dynasty then why can't u call montreal a dynasty?
- derm10

because MTL is NOT in a rebuild, they are constantly trying to add the extra piece to make the playoffs every year. Last year is the DEFINITION of disaster in Montreal...you were 28th in a 30team league, and YOU thought they'd win the cup last year, just like the rest of Habs fans.

MTL will be 6-10th this year...again. If they make the playoffs it will be electric on 1000 de la gauchetierre and lots of fun..for one round...then they'll get another 10th to 15th draft pick...

mediocre.

I will bet you anything that EDM wins a cup before MTL. If you take that bet, you're using your emotions not your head.

@derm10 - Congratulations on pissing everyone off with simple one-liners. To everyone else, he's just playing Devils Advocate and feeding off your guys anger. Yes Edmonton is not a good team right now; who doesn't know this?
- Dangles13

I don't know this...I like the team. I'd just like to see three more holes filled on the team. 14or15 of the 20spots on the team are filled by guys that I really don't mind at all.

Smyth's on his last legs, Petrell, Harti and MPS are green, but I'd say some of Belanger, Horcoff, Eager and Jones could make up a decent bottom 6. I'd like a few more big bodies, and a few more guys with cup experience. Especially since it's unclear what Harti, MPS and Petrell will end up doing (let alone Pitlick, Hamilton, Lander, Vandevelde, etc.) and Belanger/Horcoff are not young.

But the main point is, nothing needs to be improved more than our defense. We'd be miles better with even one more guy that could play 20 competent minutes.

the defense is still a few years away from being able to compete with the defence cores among playoff teams.

Ebs was drafted 22nd overall iin 2008, not exactly a high draft pick. The pick was from Anaheim in the pronger trade but do not confuse a guy wanting out of town cause he was (frank)ing everything that moved and his wife demanded he ask for a trade with a rebuild. That was also the year they gave up their first round pick to Anaheim from the penner offer sheet. So once again, do you have any facts or logic to back up this rebuild since Monday June 19th, 2006 at approximately 11pm est. ???

Fistric, Schutlz, Schutlz, Petry, Smid and Potter will NEVER be a cup contending calibre d-core. I think most oilers fans will tell you that.

The playoffs might be in the cards sooner or later for Edmonton, depending on what kind of moves they make, but I'd bet that at least 3 of those names will be different by the time the oilers to make the playoffs.

exactly... there is gunna be a littler turnover before this core makes the playoffs.

but it is gunna take some movement up front to accomplish this.. and address the goaltending........ i think the oilers have great talent up front... but they need to shuffle the deck to get the right mix.
