Grabo, in fact.
- p_zub

Grabo was UFA, O'reilly RFA.

That fact alone menas O'Reilly is minimum $1M overpaid, and that's if he can manage to be as consistent as Grabo (...er...was)

Better not get caught up in the Kadri hoopla and forget to re-up Bozak. He's the most well-rounded centre you guys have and Kadri isn't ready to step into Bozzy's shutdown role.
- Morris

Bozak will bring back a nice return and will allow JVR to take his spot on the 1st line center next season, nice 1 & 2, Jvr and Kadri

half a season where he had 30+ games in the AHL to get game ready while half the league sat out.

asterisks all over it. 2 years for total of $6-7.5M is more than fair and good for both. He's suffered through unreal expectations a few years already - won't want to do it again.

- Big_Lightnin

i don't disagree that a few things have gone kadri's way this year but his agent doesn't care and im sure he starts at 5m per in a negotiation. I think they settle around 4.

Perhaps "shutdown" was a poor choice of words. I'd argue Bozak takes more important faceoffs and faces better competition. Bozak plays PK and Kadri doesn't really. That's all I was saying. I don't think Kadri is playing a role such that they have the luxury of keeping him and losing Bozak.
- Morris

Bozak doesn't face top lines...luckily for the Leafs.

Interpretation? FFS another example of how a sport is now all about lawyers and money...not about the sport and the kids' dream about playing that sport professionally......yeah I know...

For Kadri, that is more than fair right now, he may opt for two years and get a bigger payday next contract.
- LeafMan

If I'm Kadri's agent I look for a one year deal at 3.5 million plus. It allows for the most money because the contract length is minimal and allows him to re-up if he can pull it off again next year.

ya that's better...

5-5 Bozak's line is all offense. He's even less responsible than he used to be.

McClement's proving to be a great depth signing and can likely take the load of the PK and defensive needs. Faceoffs are great, valuable, but not irreplaceable. Hell have him tutor Kadri the rest of the year for the good of the team.

am I really mistaken in remarking that Bozak plays more of a two-way role than Kadri, gets more def zone starts than Kadri and faces better competition (factoring in PK time) than Kadri?

Full disclosure: I've seen only a handful of leaf game this year.

no your expansion was bang on.

Bozak faces top checking lines most of time, except in D zones where he's often against top offensive.

But Carlyle has been using Kadri more late in games, in own end, against top lines, etc. he went head to head against Tavares line half the game last night cause Bozak line sucked. He was being insulated early - baby steps - but he's being used in a more complete role as confidence grows (both Carlyle's confidence in him, and Kadri's in himself).

Kadri is playing extremely well this year. But it has only been a handful of games so far. I hope he continues, but he could level out.

Burke saw him as a point per game player and he might just be. He's done a great job with Dallas Eakins and improved his 2 way game.

I hope he doesn't pull a stupid and put business infront of the game. Signing a shorter deal will be his biggest payday IMO.

I've heard it mentioned - just didn't know we were ready to ship Bozak and make JVR our out and out 1st line centre

No you are not offside with that. Kadri has excelled this year playing his line because he is rarely facing the best line or the other team's shutdown pairing. Carlyle has given him a role to succeed in.

two years 4.5 should get it done. will still be a RFA when its done and can get another pay raise. I would move gabro at the draft and sign boazak to something like 3-3.5 for 3 years.

I could also see 5 years, $4M per. Potentially a steal for the Leafs on the last 3 years if he keeps this up, and great security for Kadri as it releave pressure for getting a payday in a year or 2.

I'd be fine with that.

They have advantage of Kuli's just going for 30G's, then dropping off dramatically as example in negotiations too.

should be able to keep it under $4M on a 2 year deal.

No it's not. Your comparable to RoR isn't accurate. He had a few good years topped off with the one last year (55pts). That's a legit argument to hold for king's ransom because you can argue momentum and trajectory.

Kadri doesn't have that same luxury, as he was essentially considered a bust before this year. My guess is that he'll sign quite easily for 2-3yrs @ 2.5-3.5 per.

- Pen15

i agree, i would say look at the current contract of Bryan Little as a comparable for term and dollars

Hey don't you have a dynasty to build around that 4th line plug Kassian and that below average goalie Schnieder?
