Colorado could work out some sort of incentive (trade) for them not to match as well from CBJ.
Colorado gets the NYR's 1st from CBJ for a mid level prospect & Cgy's 1st and 3rd
CBJ get's a mid level prospect and O'Reilly off waivers
CGY gets a new GM
It's sick but completely legal, teams have worked with each-other involving the waiver wire and trade scenarios in the past. |

Hypothetically speaking, say Sherman doesn't match. What is he really getting? The 1st and 3rd that he already stated isn't enough for RoR. So do you take what you don't want, just to (frank) the Flames?
By stating, I'm assuming they don't want that poor of return. Because A. They matched quick last night and B. Could've gotten that in trade a month ago. - Lahey
Alot can happen with the standings in the next week (the match period), but what if at weeks end Columbus is still sitting in the bottom slot, and the Avs tell them that they won't match if Columbus gives them one of their three 1st round picks and a good prospect. Then the Avs would get two firsts, a third, and a good prospect for O'Reilly. But maybe the league would put the kybosh on that type of deal, so who knows.
Edit: The Avs would need to send something of value back to Columbus to make the trade legit. |

I think the league was trying to get ride of these ridiculous contracts for young players, CGY went against that and it's obvious the league (Daly) is backing the waiver rule. Nothing can be proven either... crazy
Yeah that's why I threw in a mid level prospect. |

There's no way Sherman decides not to match, after agreeing to match, just to screw with them. They would be (arguably) further ahead to keep ROR and eat the cap hit next year, assuming he progresses as they anticipated with respect to his development.
Although, the two draft picks could be high, in a potentially solid draft year... - Colin Dambrauskas
Why not... Calgary tried to screw them by signing him to the offer sheet.

Well it sounds like not many around the league knew about this waiver clause including Colorado. |

Sure don't match take the 1st and 3rd picks and hope they can get him on waivers? And screw Feaster out of his 2 picks. But your right I think someone would pick up R O R before either the Avs or Flames get a chance. Interesting development for sure. |

The real issue with trying to make a deal with CBJ is that it is well, CBJ. Now if Buffalo was in 30th you have yourselves a deal that can happen, but does CBJ have this kind of money to toss around, I'd say no. |

GM's hire guys to know this poop. It's like hiring someone to shovel your snow, do you pick the Eskimo from Noneofit or the Haitian from Haiti? You hire the Haitian then you only have yourself to blame. |

I agree. I'm just saying that many in the NHL did not know.
On another note did you see the presser from Colorado? He looked like a complete idiot. |

Nah, between you and laughs I have enough idiots to look at. Plus I'll have to look in the mirror at some point today.
What I don't get is why not just ask? The Flames are playing the whole "we think this way, the league thinks that way", why even be so stupid to say something like this? |
|
|
|
Imagine Colorado phoning up Feaster and saying the following.
"You give me a good prospect for a 3rd or 4th round pick or we don't match".
Give up your 1st and 3rd for nothing or give us something. |

Exactly! Just like Serman saying they got their guy. When he said they came to terms with O'Reilly I was LMAO!
And I also caught the idiot comment... |

He can do it, but we all know Sherman doesn't want those picks for RoR.
Well maybe not Feaster, but most know. |

Honestly, if it's not specifically defined in the CBA, I'd say the exact same thing as Feaster... "Our lawyers are of the opinion that the CBA should be interpreted as such and we're prepared to defend our position if required." |

Interesting but I heard that ROR had rejected an Offer Sheet from Vancouver & took ours. Also, If Sherman knew about this rule, why didnt he make it public to all other teams & the ROR camp & boom, no leverage & they would have signed a deal that would have been closer to the numbers they wanted. |

After reading some language Feaster might have had a point.
“All Players on a Club’s Reserve List and Restricted Free Agent List will be exempt from the application of CBA 13.23 Waivers in the case of a mid-season signing.”
The key is it says "a" team. Doesn't say the team that owns his rights. |

This is the kinda thing that makes me clean my gun and look for lawyers for not using simple (frank)ing English.
What good is a thousand page CBA if we need a ten thousand page article on what everything actually means? |
