Great . . . they recalled Brian McGrattan, and sent Aliu down. Too bad really, i would have liked them to develope Aliu into a permant agitator, rather than see some goon.
I guess we can send Brian out to toon someone next time we blow a lead. - FL4MES
tbh...I have a hard time figuring out some of the moves made with this team. Like you said, why not mold a guy like Aliu into that role rather than playing a guy like McGrattan...one that you traded for.
I could see picking up a guy like McGrattan in order to make a push for the cup as he could serve a purpose come playoffs...but...like I mean... |

Welcome to paying Shawn Horcoff 1st line center money, pay Fernando Pisani 3mil for playing well in the playoffs, signing a drunk to be your goalie, having to buyout your captain as he is a cancer, firing multiple coaches when really your team just sucks, chasing big stars that don't want to play for you etc... |

Nah in all honesty I think all they have to do is punt King but that probably won't happen as King has increased $$$ in Murray's pocket. - whipper334
Ken King gets FAR too much credit for the Flames turnaround.
Calgary is a hockey mad Canadian city that has also been one of the biggest boom towns in the world over the last decade. Couple that with the rebound of the Canadian dollar and I bet a friggin Monkey could have made the Flames successful over that time frame. |

Man......oh man.
That would have been an instant firing if the Av's hadn't matched and say...CBJ grabbed O'Reilly off waivers. - Ben37
Could you imagine if the Avalanche picked him up off waivers!?!

Seriously though, why wouldn't the team winning the claim be responsible for surrendering the picks? I don't understand this rule whatsoever... - SotaPopinski
It doesn't make sense that the RFA is protected for the existing team, but not for an offering team. It defeats the whole idea of RFA status. |

Perhaps its one way to deter teams from offer sheets and protect teams with highly valued RFA's. Can't imagine the PA would go for that though.......who knows. |

There is also news that Colorado has possibly not filed the paperwork to match the offer-sheet officially yet.
Vic Lombardi @VicLombardi
Just heard back from the Avs. Should know shortly whether or not they did indeed complete the paperwork for ROR.

Changed in the new CBA. If I'm the Rangers I'm buying a KHL team to hide a key player every year. |

Also heard that if Sherman is quoted somewhere as saying they'll match that it is legally binding.
Could be a fine mess.
How about COL doesn't match and then CGY sues the league as the new CBA isn't actually official. Just how binding is the new one? |

Move forward with Feaster? If all of this ROR waiver stuff is true, I think he's done--which I'm not all that upset about. - takeyourvitamins

Don't feel bad. Gillis should've waited but loss a player for impatience.
@FarhanLaljiTSN: Gillis didn't know the results of Kesler's CT scan when the placed Volpatti on waivers. A couple of hours cost them the player. #canucks |

It's a loophole, but something that was changed. So who decided to change it and why didn't Sherman and Feaster know about it? It's not like it was something that was hidden with latin language. Clear, cut change that every GM should know. Yet not many seem to have known.

Hypothetically speaking, say Sherman doesn't match. What is he really getting? The 1st and 3rd that he already stated isn't enough for RoR. So do you take what you don't want, just to (frank) the Flames?
By stating, I'm assuming they don't want that poor of return. Because A. They matched quick last night and B. Could've gotten that in trade a month ago. |

There's no way Sherman decides not to match, after agreeing to match, just to screw with them. They would be (arguably) further ahead to keep ROR and eat the cap hit next year, assuming he progresses as they anticipated with respect to his development.
Although, the two draft picks could be high, in a potentially solid draft year... |
