Apparently the Daly quote was an old quote -- not from the ROR story.

Wait, so we've still got an almost-was-a-controversy? Keep the party moving, folks!

We've already discussed it and the clarification from the NHL that the story was wrong and he wouldn't have had to pass waivers.

So Leight

- Jsaquella

They're still going on and on about it on Hockey Central so if there was a clarification they haven't heard it.

That's funny.. You're welcome hahah

Are Cousins' legal woes behind him? I know he's been tearing it up, but I hope it's all clear for him to start developing at the pro level soon.

To my knoweledge no. His court case has been moved to after the season. (We are talking about Canada here. Hockey outweighs any pending criminal charges.)

hockeycentral at noon on sportsnet are lambaisting the Flames right now and speculating that Calgary fans are calling into their local sport radio calling for the entire head office to be fired. They can't believe that no one caught that he would have had to pass waivers, and saying that there is no way that he would have cleared. Forgone conclusion that they would have lost the picks and the player, and that GM etc would have gotten canned. Oh glad not to be a Flames fan today.

I'd love for it to be true, because it'd give DGB about 5 years of Jay Feaster material

I know we'd both prefer 6 less teams but we know that isn't happening.

Even if it's not true, they should be fired for offering a ridiculous contract!

Nope. Turns out RFAs are now exempt from waivers under the new CBA.
- NickTheKid87

That is not correct Nick. It's about signing players that have been playing outside the League at Mid Season.

I can't believe the Avs matched personally. Calgary sucks beyond belief and that 1 pick is going to be lottery in a good draft. 5 mil for O'Reilly is insane.

Yes, MoAT stated a few post above that they are still clarifying whether or not ROR would have been subject to waivers. The original report said he would be just like Nabokov was when Detroit signed him, then another report came out saying that rule didn't apply to RFAs but now they are saying it was an old quote from Daly saying that.

so WTF is the deal? 1. Feaster didn't mess up or 2. he did, but escaped because the Avs matched?

That's exactly what the hockeycentral guys said. Someone missed the detail that ROR played in the K in january. He would have been claimed.

Somebody took an old quote from Daly and applied it to O'Reilly. The report has not been fully debunked. My bad.

Not sure yet. The reporter who filed the original story has a good reputation and does his homework, so he could well be correct.

The talking heads on sportsnet here are talking that Feasteror his staff missed it and they dodged a huge bullet. That would have meant a resignation or firing. Details people details.

The rule released thru the 25 page primer mentioned mid-season signings and trades preceeding signings...says nothing about an offer sheet.
