In actual news, Nick Kypreos tweeted that he expects an announcement on a realignment agreement will becoming soon.

Which should be good. I still love people complaining that some conferences are stacked with good teams. As if said teams will always be good and there will be zero fluctuation in the years to come.

So ROR would have been subject to waivers?
- NickTheKid87

I wonder if this was figrued out and they matched to help ensure that didn't happen? I could see the NHL doing something shifty like that...

I think the Habs are a legit playoff team this year.
They look very quick and speedy.

Legit PO team, yes, but best team in the Eastern Conference at year's end? Not a chance.

It actually just came out that RFAs are exempt from waivers in the new CBA.

I don't even know what the proposed realignment is. Are they still going with that playoffs structure that assures divisional match ups in the first round?

Playoff structure is weird and the Florida teams get shafted. I also don't like an uneven amount of teams in each division but I figure they'll look to expand.

To be fair, the rougher sailing may be out of the way, but the Flyers are still at a disadvantage in terms of games played. So to speak, they've already used a lot of their margin for error.
- BulliesPhan87

I know what you mean, but italso means other teams now have to deal with the more compressed schedule which (for some not all) will mean that when they play 3 in 4 nights, they will start to piss points away like we have done at times due to fatigue. Having said that, we have to get on a roll and it will even out.

Boston has a better winning percentage now, even if the Habs have more points.

I don't like 8 playoff teams from each conference, when one has 14 teams and the other 16

They shouldn't have bothered with the East and West and just did conference winners advancing to a final four. I would be ok with that.

Had Colorado not matched, yes.

This screams one of two things:

1. Jay Feaster is an unbelievable moron who doesn't know the rules that govern his job.

2. That the Avs and Flames had a gentleman's agreement that the Flames would sign O'Reilly to an offer sheet and the Avs would instantly match

- Jsaquella

Why wouldn't the Avs just offer the contract to O'Reilly and forget about the Offer Sheer shenanigans?

So I'm probably late with this but do offer sheets ever work? It seems like they are only tools to force teams to crap or get off the pot when having issues with a player contract negotiation.
- FlyersGrace

I guess that depends on the what the definition of working is. Personally, I don't like Offer Sheets, and I wish they'd do away with them.

My understanding was that the conferences with 8 teams would have a wildcard as well? Gotta find the link where they explained it... And I thought our conference had 8 teams? That picture is missing someone or I just can't count. (Both high possibilities).

You'd assume so, but it's a moot point as the info on the story was not correct.

The NHL stated that there'd be no waivers had Colorado not matched.
