So you're suggesting?
JVR Bozak Kessel
Lupul Kadri Frattin
Komarov Grabovski Kulemin
McClement - 2 of Orr,Brown and McLaren winging that line.
That's the issue? Where does MacArthur fit?
Does Komarov move down to 4th line with McClement and say Orr. Cause Komarov hits and gets the job done.
Reunite MacArthur with the old line for steady 3rd line. Waive or trade Steckel and keep Brown and McLaren in the press box til somebody gets hurt? - t_leafs21
Lines yes.
Somebody HAS to be traded - hopefully Mac. Maybe Kuli. Maybe Grabo. McClement could center shutdown line. 4th line center issue then I suppose, but can be solved.
Steckel somehow removed - trade or waivers.
Holzer likely sent down too because he's only guy who is waiver exempt, and has been struggling a bit. Even if he's only down until they work a trade for Liles/Gunnar or someone else gets hurt.

The unsigned forward spent part of the NHL lockout playing with his brother, Cal, for Magnitogorsk in Russia. According to Metallurg coach Paul Maurice and KHL spokesman Shawn McBride, he appeared in games on Jan. 21 and Jan. 23 – both after the shortened NHL schedule was back underway – which meant that waivers were required before O’Reilly could return to the NHL as a free agent midway through the season. |

I can see an appeal and win on that one though. Flames could apply same logic as a returning player the Avs could.
I get how the rule is written, but he intent of the rule isn't for situations with RFA's. There would have been a huge fight if he went to CBJ that likely results in an ammendment to that rule. I can see that happening now anyway (amendment) |

Geeze... read the article!!
More recently, Evgeni Nabokov, Kyle Wellwood and Marek Svatos have all signed with NHL teams upon returning to North America and then found themselves suiting up elsewhere after being immediately picked off the waiver wire. |

like Nabakov.
But ya, as RFA on contract dispute that doesn't make sense. Avs wouldn't have to clear him, so any new team shouldn't have to either.

The Routsalainen Rule. Apparently Rexy bounced between NHL and Euro throughout the 80s and once joined the Oilers just in time to win a Cup. Ergo, this rule now exists to prevent that sort of thing from happening. |

I saw the Benn play fully but I was at the bar so I only kind of half saw the Fistric thing.
Did he not come into a scrum and cross check Roussel from behind? |

it actually discourages teams from signing guys who arent playing in the NHL. |

Something isn't adding up in that story..
"The most interesting part of O’Reilly’s case is that the NHL didn’t believe he had played in Russia after the start of its season, according to a source. "
Even the League it's self didn't believe he played...
Wasn't ROR injured and released by KHL team before the lockout ended??? |

Personally, I don't like the rule as a whole. If there's a UFA who played in another league, why should he have to clear waivers to play for a team he chose to go to, when a UFA who didn't play elsewhere wouldn't have to? Detroit really got (frank)ed over in the Nabokov situation. |

I actually think it's stupid because it involves a RFA......unrestricted free agents sure, but I wonder if the fact he's RFA means the rule actually doesn't apply. But whatev, if its the case, then wow...... |

My understanding is that the Flames could have kept him out of the line-up this year and then brought him in next season.
Still horribly embarrassing to pay a 1st and a 3rd for one season of work, but marginally less embarrassing than having him go to Columbus. |

Holzer is looking steady though. Pretty fast too for a big guy, he compliments Phaneuf well, let's him be more offensive. I think Gunnarsson is on the block for sure. Gardiner isn't barking at the door, he's basically breaking it.
I've believed since the lockout that if the season started, MacArthur would be moved at the deadline. He's a useful player that's a pending UFA and not part of the long-term plan. It just comes down to when you move him, cause the deadline isn't for another month and sitting him in the pressbox doesn't help his value. |

It's to prevent teams from hiding guys in Europe and signing them late in the season.
It's a good rule - just nobody envisioned it would work that way with offer sheets on hold-out RFAs. |

Give up a 1st and a 3rd for nothing. - robin_steele264
Not so fast. That rule applies under the old CBA. Under the new CBA that rule does not apply to RFA's.
It would have been a court battle for the lawyers to fight out. |
