Mystery solved

Down Goes Brown ‏@DownGoesBrown
Flames acquire McGrattan to provide protection for their good players. Step two of the plan: acquire good players.

Scattered thoughts:

- I thought Bozak was just a place holder until we found a better option? I'm not saying Kadri is the ideal long term solution to our #1C problem just yet, but he's the best we'e got.

If Bozak is a third line center going forward, get him on the third line.

- Surely Gardiner gets in now? Right?

- The entire team looked tentative and hesitant all game after that Brown penalty. I can't stand the NHL's approach to officiating (overly involved game managers who think they need to set the tone early, or some BS).

- I can't jump on Scrivens too much, but that was a rough outing. For a goalie who thrives on getting in the right position and letting pucks hit him, far too many went right through him. He looked like Caspar the Friendly Ghost on a few of those goals.

save bet is to just ban him anytime you see him, he'll pop up somewhere else but when that account is being used you know no good will come of it.

Habs were handed that game last night!

1) Brown hits his man hip to hip. No way that's a penalty, let alone a major with an added game misconduct. Habs player needs to take responsibility.

2) the Bozak draw was classic bush league reff

3) Prust left his feet many times throwing his midget self at people claiming to try to hit people, also the punch and dropping of the gloves against Phaneuf. No penalties on any of that is just an add on to the bush league reffing that is the $3 billion dollar NHL. No wonder they cant get fans to watch. Us fans are used to refs getting calls right 99% of the time, if not the coach challenges. NFL and MLB got it right, I don't know why the NHL cannot, or maybe they just refuse to.

All 4 refs last night were French....Only the NHL would employ 4 Frenchman for a game between 2 hated rivals. It's obvious the Frenchies have inferiority issues to the English. Kind of like Vancouver's hate for all things Toronto....Comes out in idiots like Jim Hughson.

Remember the good, old days when the diving/embellishment was limited to phantom tripping calls and high sticks?

The new thing seems to be embellishing boarding calls. It's a league-wide thing.

Clever, too. It's easy to spot a dive on a fake trip or a high stick that doesn't exist, but almost impossible to spot when you give yourself a little extra "oomph" into the boards.

Was not the turning point in the game.....Toronto was just out played all together.
- wicket

For sure it had some to do with it. 5 mins for nothing and leafs had zero chance at that time to turn the momentum a little at least.

And besides all that... The Habs were all over the Leafs for pretty much the entire game!

I thought the Lefs did a good job of weathering the storm. Sure, they gave up the one goal on the 5 min. major, but on fresh ice, it could have been a lot worse. The Leafs didn't look great all night, but had the game tied. That blown puck-drop is what killed the Leafs. Mistakes like that by referees/linesmen are inexcusable.

In the end, the Leafs didn't really deserve to win that game, but they didn't deserve to lose it the way they did. Toronto was lucky to still be in the game mid-way through the third, but Montreal got the lucky break that won them the game.

- Cimo

lucky break? shots were 25-6 for mtl late in the 2nd... t.o was dominated, only place the leafs were dominant was in hits... the hit on georges wouldnt have merited any discipline after the game but felt it was the right call on the ice.

on top of that ACC has to be the most boring arena in the nhl.... it was louder when the habs scored. no emotion there at all

There was no bias, they we just simply bad. Even Toronto deserved to have more penalties called against them than just the Brown call. We can chalk these ones up to incompetence...which apparently 100% of GMs in the league right now seem to agree with according to recent reports.

True story: ex-Leafs GM Gerry McNamara sued a woman for a car accident - claimed he had brain damage while being Leafs' GM.

I swear to God that's true.

Damien Cox today: If Perry on block, Leafs need to be in on him. Would be a 'transformational' player the way Kessel has failed to be. Mentions Kessel as part of a possible deal. Hmm.
