How does that guy continue to lace up the skates, a true marvel and spokesman for whining.
- LeafMan

keep stoking the flames, bud.

leafs were full marks for the dominant 6-0 win a few weks ago but to actually imply the 5 minute major last night was the turning point? HAAAAAAAA! sour grapes.

Kadri's a tougher fighter than you think. He'd certainly lose to Neil, but I've seen the kid beat the poop out of some tough hombres.

So that's your definition of "killing Chara"?
- slashtrash

Well I see Chara covering up, and Neill showing mercy. So ya, thats a mercy kill in my books.

Maybe - but you don't want him fighting guys like Prust - I'm sure the coach doesn't want a 4th liner taking our top guy to the box. Prust is a puss for trying to fight anybody but our 4 th line guys -
- Garnie

Should Phaneuf be fighting Prust or guys like Prust every single game? No.

Would it kill him to do it every once in awhile when his team is playing like crap? No.

Phaneuf shouldn't make a whole career of fighting Prust but he can't pick and choose every single guy he fights either. Phaneuf can't fight ballerinas and stay away from the real tough guys if Phaneuf expects to be as tough as he tries to appear.

good lord, berger is an absolute useless waste of space isnt he
- Barx

Howard Berger was always negative. Claimed to be a Leaf fan but really seemed to hate the team. Kinda like that guy - Unholy Goalie. He was banned and isn't here anymore though, so I'm told.

Chara is the biggest guy in the league but Phaneuf isn't a small guy. If Phaneuf is going to have this tough guy demeanor who goes out looking for big hits and plays a tough game who is the captain of a tough team, then he's going to have to mix it up every so often, especially when the rest of the team won't.
- Two_For_Truth

Well said. That's the one thing that has always pissed me off about Dustin Brown. The guy runs people over but refused to drop the gloves.

Phaneuf was running around the ice attempting to cause concussions on any Canadian he hit. He should have dropped the gloves and it would have invigorated the Leafs, as they were freaking stale as hell...

Did Scrivens play the puck well enuff for you last night?

He only let in 1 bad goal and that was patches 2 nd one - which phaneuf should have been able to clear - Scrivens puck handling abilities puts him ahead of Reimer in goal I believe - Reimer tonite but 1st game back so we won't use tonite as the test but the nextz couple for sure - I think we will see Scrivens back in.

What do u think aard?

- Garnie

He didn't play bad. Better with the puck too.. I like Scrivens and hope he can keep the pressure on Reimer.. But as it stands right now, Reimer is their number 1.

I really feel a crash and burn coming tonight. The Leafs are going to be on an emotional downer and seeing 3 days off ahead, their heads aren't going to be in the game. Reimer will be rusty and the defense will be out of sorts, with Liles coming back into the mix. I feel a 6 - 2 loss coming. It'll be 3 - 0 after the first. Book it!
- PrinceLH

I dunno - they get a chance to avoid 2 full bag skate practices...

could be a bounce back.

And what if Phaneuf loses the fight? That's inspiring to the team, seeing your captain go to the box, having lost against a nobody.

And what if Phaneuf breaks his hand in the fight? Or gets his orbital bone smashed?

Then he's out more than a few shifts, and the Leafs lose their best d-man.

Star players should not fight enforcers. Ever.

That's why we have (frank)ing 4 of them on roster.

- Feeling Glucky?

Amen totally agree - and phaneuf has enuff problems standing without having to chuck punches too!!,

that shot was perfect. Can't call that a bad goal. Not too many guys in the league would even attempt that shot.

I'm not so sure - I hope Reimer takes the ball and runs but I think Scrivens will turn out to be the better tender especially with his puck skills it really helps our inexperienced D if that makes sense.

Its just such an obvious and stupid thing to say. Anytime ANY team plays bad, and they all eventually do, then anyone could say that if that team continued to play like that they wouldn't make the playoffs.

Funny when the Leafs are playing well, you never hear from Berger do you?

How would having their best d-man in the box for 5 minutes help their play?

I'm all for a fight to jump-start the team, but not when it's the guy who plays more minutes than anyone on the team.

EDIT: With Orr, McLaren and Brown in the game, Phaneuf shouldn't be fighting.

his horrible rebound control and the leafs slow d is not a recipe for success. far from a #1 goalie at this point.

Not that it was bad but short side - bad angle - he just has to stand tall and it could be saved - lucky ass goal you see guys trying that every game but not to many hit that wee little spot

Fair enough. How about challenging Prust later in the game?
