hes 31, not likes its over for him. still has time - wingz4life
He has time alright, but who's gonna give it to him? He's playing this year and isn't very good. When you're playing for the Islanders and get sent down, that's kind of an indicator of your play.

I thought that this was the hole discussion was about.
and now you're agreeing with it.
I'm confused. - dmnted
The very first thing I said on the subject was that on the PK it didn't make sense for him to fight because he was trying to kill a penalty and by doing what he did, he got Prust trapped into the zone and killed off more time. What I also said was that Phaneuf should have tried to spark the team, which was playing really flat and uninspired hockey, later on in the 2nd period with a fight because nobody else seemed to want to do it and as a captain, that's what he should be doing; leading by example.

You're missing the point. Aside from getting hurt (which is all you seem to focus on), you take the leafs most experienced defender off the ice for 5 minutes. - Fatty-Patty
But he was playing like complete crap so it's not the end of the world if he sits for 5 minutes if it means the rest of the team gets fired up and starts playing more inspired hockey.

I know nothing about this guy, but why not pickup Leighton off wiavers? - JIMI-JAMES
They signed this guy when Reimer went down, as a second goalie for the Marlies. Its interesting that they now have given him a contract. Is there a trade for a goalie in the works? Just odd that they would sign him for the Marlies.

that or hes off to the KHL - wingz4life
I could actually see him playing in the KHL for a bit. Along the lines of your thinking, he really could just condition himself more there and work on getting himself back to being solid.
Why spark the team when you're the big, tough captain when you could just let the Habs walk all over you? - Two_For_Truth
Can't think of too many big tough captains that fight a lot these days? Phaneuf drops the gloves as often as Dustin Brown, Weber, Iggy, Vinny, Backes ....
Eric Staal hasn't dropped the gloves in 7 years.
And I'd wager the number of fights those guys have had with the other teams goon was nominal at best.
...prust looked like a the goofy meathead he is and just like any other dum dum, shouldn't really be given the time of day. - Barx
The Leafs were being outplayed. Dropping Prust may have turned the game around and sent it in the direction the last game went. Get the bench pumped and go get me some Habs for lunch. It would have generated a positive response. So much for a high hockey IQ here.

Wendell, Cam, Ponger ....those days have sailed. - The Law
It depends on the guy and the team. But considering the Leafs are trying to forge an identity as this big, tough team, it would make sense if the captain led by example. Chara is a lot bigger than Phaneuf but Chara can and will fight when the time calls for it.

up to your old tricks offending with the truth again I see.
