orr played over 15 minutes....more than enough time to slap prust about.
- Barx

And yet he didn't. This is exactly why Phaneuf, being the captain and leader, should have stepped up at some point. To remind his team how they have to play to succeed.

Not at all. I already said Phaneuf shouldn't have fought him on the PK. That would have been stupid. I don't expect him to fight him when his team is trying to kill a 5 minute PK. But as the captain of what is suppose to be a rough and tough team, he didn't do anything to spark the team and bring back the same type of aggression they had in the 6-0 game. A fight would have been a concrete example of trying to spark the team. And with the way he was playing, sitting for 5 minutes wouldn't have been that big of a deal because he was doing more bad than good with his play.

What if Phaneuf breaks his foot blocking a shot?

Okay, no more shot blocking

What if Phaneuf hurts his teammates with a shot he misses?

Okay, no more shooting.

- Two_For_Truth

There are already enough risks with his game. Why add more fighting a nobody?

So it would be stupid for Phaneuf to fight on the PK because he's too valuable.

But it would have been smart to take the major (plus possible instigator) later on because he's more hindrance than help.

Gotcha.

What if someone steps on the ice and cracks their head open??

Maybe we just shouldnt put him on the ice, because theres that off chance of getting injured.

Blocking shots and not shooting he says, you are honestly out to lunch.

Right, because it didn't happen. Your original statement was that it happened so much that it basically lost the game.

Let me know when NHL.com has video of missing hits.

He gave the puck away at his own blueline on the 4th goal. Guess you missed that goal.

Hodgson's stock was never that low. They had to give up Kassian to get him. The Leafs would have had to give up at least Kadri and maybe more considering that the Canucks were desperately looking for the type of player that Kassian is.
- Two_For_Truth

Kassian's stock was low as hell when he was dealt too....Hodgson could have fetched way more even a year before the deal. To say that his stock wasn't low is a bit off. I like Kassian, watched him in Ptbo, but he's never going to have the overall upside of a Cody Hodgson, as they do play way different games...still take Hodgson everytime.

He's making a legit argument tho. If the leafs are gonna be a tough team their captain needs to show he won't be pushed around. I don't understand the argument these guys are making. It's becoming a gongshow in here. Montreal embarrassed them on the scoreboard and with their work effort.

Reminds me when he backed down to Hartnell, last year, in a pivotal game, at the ACC, down the stretch.

The Leafs still had nothing the Canucks wanted. The Canucks wanted Kassian because they see him as a tough guy they can put with the Sedins. The Leafs didn't have anybody like that to give them. And don't say Biggs because not only is he nowhere near NHL ready, he's also half the player Kassian is.

I was just following your logic on "what if Phaneuf gets hurt fighting". You pretty much just buried your own logic.

Why spark the team when you're the big, tough captain when you could just let the Habs walk all over you?

Bottom line, Toronto could have made a deal for Hodgson, did they have a player EXACTLY like Kassian? Nope, not many teams do, but I think a deal could have been made. Ah well, highsight is always 20/20, but I was on here a few years ago talking about how much i'd love Hodgson in a Leaf uni. I think he'll be a good one.
