All the Leaf hates crack me up.... Did we get outplayed? yes.
However after being down 20-5 in shots we actually started to take the play to the Habs in the first half of the third period. We had 18 shots in the second half of the game and most of those were before the Bozak faceoff fiasco...

There were a couple major, deflating moments. Should we have played through them and responded better? Absolutely.

But when you totally and completely thump a team, it's pretty rare to beat them again. At the very least, they're going to put up a much better effort.

I'd actually like to see the stats regarding rematches after one-sided wins. It seems that the team on the receiving end of a whooping tends to win more often the next time.

The Leafs sucked last night, but I'm not going to make any sweeping generalizations about them after that game.

a reasonable fan!

i'd also like to see stats after blowout matches, the revenge factor can't be denied...in most cases

Let me guess you are about to take a faceoff and don't need the stick.

Brutal game last night, they didn't start to move their feet until the half way mark in the 3rd period, and that's not going to cut it against a team like Montreal who likes to use their speed to their advantage for the most part. Toronto has to come out stronger on the puck and boards tonight, they should be able to beat NYI, but who knows. I personally wouldn't mind seeing Liles back in the lineup and letting Kostka sit for a game or two, not liking what i've seen out of him the past few games..he seems to be getting a little behind the play.

While I didn't think any D had a particularly good game last night (other than Franson who had an OK game), but to me Liles would fill in for Koskta the best. Toronto seems to be really lacking any punch from the back-end, especially skating ability...Jake Gardiner anyone? If it was up to me, he'd already be back in the Big time. I hope Reimer gets the start tonight, not because of Scrivens playing badly necessarily, but I just think he needs a rest.

I generally agree with this, but I think Toronto could make a few small moves (put in a different D man, put in Reimer) just to shake things up a little. I didn't think they played a great game against Philly either.

I liked that he took a run at Gallagher, who was in Scrivens' business before that.

For whatever reason, the Leafs just didn't play the game they've been playing all year. They seemed hesitant to do anything out there.

Whatever. We came out flat against a motivated team we embarrassed last time. Round four will be different. It's just the cycle of things. Now we're the ones with something to prove.

- Leeman4Gilmour

same could have been said about the habs in the 6-0 loss. we didn't play our game. leafs hace a great team no question, but the habs speed and their forcheck was too much.

as far as the refs, deharnais (arguably our best f/o guy) was thrown out of the dot at least a dozen times. people on this blog stretching for excuses is really sad. the habs are the better team and won with a clean game. the brown hit was dirty and I would have been ok with the 5 mins had it been a leaf player being thrown into the boards. its a dangerous play and there was no need for brown to pull thst poop.

They need a player who can make that good first pass out of the zone. There were times when we'd recover the puck in our own end and just couldn't break out.

And our second PP unit is weak. I agree that I'd get Liles or Gardiner in now. Perhaps for Holzer, who has been Jekyll and Hyde all year.

I know Carlyle likes size in his defense, but we desperately need a smooth PMD.

The Philly game was probably the best they played in 2weeks. That's the game they need to bring on a regular basis. They used their speed, won battles, forechecked good.

How did they play poor?

Leafs were horribly outplayed. Montreal played a solid game.

Leafs first line was invisible. Other than Kessel turning the puck over for the empty net goal.

Refs did not lose the game for T.O. They just didn't bring it.

I agree on the assessment of the ACC. Not sure what's going on there these days? I guess maybe a lack of important hockey is killing the crowds? I was there in 2002 Round 1 game 2 vs the Islanders and the place was a madhouse.

What was Grabovski doing on that penalty shot? To me that was the TSN turning point of the game.

Almost nobody in the hockey world believes that should have been 5 and a game.

Take your win. I can't say you guys didn't outplay us. But don't pretend the officiating didn't give you a boost.

Completely agreed...I don't mind Holzer because he plays with an edge and is huge, but Toronto needs a different element from the back-end right now, imo at least.

I hate to say this but the D should not throw the puck up the boards on Kessels side, we get hemmed in, he is starting to bail out on the plays a lot, it's like he has an injury or something

I was at a bar with my buddy watching the game. After the "attempt" I made reference to Jason Allison. Fairly accurate I believe.

Never said they played poor....I just didn't really like their game OVERALL. They were hemmed in their zone for extended periods, which is becoming a theme for this team once again. Like what has already been said, Toronto desperately needs someone that can make that first pass out of the zone, they've been having major issues with it the past few games, and especially last night.

Kessel has really pissed me off the past few games. In the Philly game he looked like he was playing scared out there, literally. He got a fluke goal, but other than that I hated his game. Last night was brutal again, he doesn't compete for the puck, he doesn't go into the corners (he actually AVOIDS the corners). The only time he seems to want to get engaged into the play is when he gets mad or is getting bothered a lot, and then he starts to try and use his stick a lot for hacking and slashing. He needs to start playing like he cares.

Didn't play well in Philly. That is the game to a "t" they should be playing. Saying they didn't play well when it was clearly one of their best efforts isn't exactly fair.
