Yeah but, If I'm Iggy I know I have about 3 yrs left, 4 tops...And I see management signing a guy like this and giving up a 1st and 3rd, I have a foot out the door. This does not make the Flames a playoff contender, just a new guy with an attitude problem.

I guess this won't make Iginla want out more, but it's not going to make him want to stay either. I don't know if he wants out at the deadline or just waits to the summer, but there is no way he should want to stick around after this season. The organization really has no future, either short term or long term.

It's an immediate improvement, but it's short term thinking for a team that really needs a long term plan. If the team completely falls out of contention, it could really haunt them. As far as Iggy goes, I think it will have very little impact whether he stays or goes. Orielly doesn't make them a serious contender.

If Calgary loses a 1st rounder for ROR, they easily get a 1st back from Iginla or JBo. Also dropping Iggys contract opens up a lot of room. This honestly makes a lot of sense for them

But can you imagine the avs with 2 top 5 picks? McKinnon and possibly Drouin?

Ryan O'Reilly at 6.5M doesnt help them and that is the lowest his cap number will be at the next arbitration.

If they play their cards right. Kipper, Iggy, and Jaybo could all get 1st rnd picks. They easily could rebuild by doing so. But when you have management that trades away players and the deadline for junk, then resigns the traded player at a higher rate, you lose hope.

ROR is hardly a franchise player there just happens to be some potentially available at the top of this years draft. Iggy and jbo will be traded to contenders so the 1st if that's what they get will be later than 20. Also giving up a 3rd they have no picks until the 4th. Hardly what a franchise rebuilding needs.

According to the Pens twitter feed...

It appears that Despres is scratched yet again. To echo prior comments, I just don't get this whatsoever.

Anyone see Malkin with that ridiculous flip of the puck from half ice in the puck bag in the goal crease?

It's flat out annoying. I'd like to think it's something us as fans are missing, but every commentator (ex players and such) can't figure it out either. I don't think there's any doubt that he's at least in the top 6 on this roster.....therefor he should be playing.

Agreed. Ignoring the current production of Martin and Letang, Despres' inherent talent-level exceeds any defenseman on this roster.

This actually helps Iggy and the flames in the short term. They upgraded their lineup without giving up any roster players.

yes by far. if this is one of our cornerstone future guys, and i think he has the goods to be, then he needs to be playing and being properly developed.

They can negotiate a deal below that number though. O'Reilly might just as well force the issue instead of going for a longer term deal though.

This is the only way that this could possibly work... They keep ROR, and acquire more number one draft picks. But yeah, this is the Flames we are tallking about.

Niskanen owes fleury a few drinks after this game. Niskanen in his first 2 shifts with a terrible pass, gets dangled and falls, and another poor turnover
