Do you have any concerns on Malkin re-signing?
- Orpik44

Until last season I wondered from time to time if Malkin might decide to let his contract expire and hit free agency...but last year he got to experience just how much the fans love him and got to see how much the franchise relies on him. The fact that Neal has remained on his line is a pretty cool statement from management that there is no "first" line in Pittsburgh, and there is no true "top" center. I think he will remain in Pittsburgh at least 5 more years, if not longer. Sure, Sid wears the C, but I think Geno knows this team wouldn't be a perpetual cup threat without him, and that will be enough.

Pretty sure if the Flyers logo wasn't there that was landing on another penguin. Richard move, man.

Staal was not my favorite, but its hard to argue that the Pens are a better team without him (3 first round exits later ). At $6 mill it may have been a hard cap hit to take.

I'm still pretty sure we can be bounced out of the first round this year too.

08 and 09 were great runs and he was vital to both of those seasons.

TIOPS reporting Despres a healthy scratch again. Amazing considering the FLA performance.

I think Calgary should go after him. Definitely. They need youth for the future but they should be ready to trade Iginla and another old guy with a big cap hit right after (if ROR is signed). I like this move, the cap hit not so much.

When Pens leave they seem to be remembered far far better than what they were. Staal was a great 3rd/2nd line center. But there were times fans and media hated him and wanted him gone. He is still young and developing and I think he will have a great career. But everyone acts like the D needs Scuderi and Gill. Other than that playoff run, everyone thought those guys were average at best. Gill's head was called for often. Ovechekin had like 8 goals and 17 pts against the Pens in that 2nd round.

Letang is someone the current D roster cant lose. I would be worried what Malkin would demand. 2 players on a roster tying up close to $9mil in cap makes the GM's job pretty difficult. Espicially when the cap will be going down.

I think Malkin is such a class act and respects Crosby A LOT. I don't think he'll be asking for too much money (not a lot more than he's currently earning). Wouldn't be surprise to see him say "me take same money as Sid"

I've been to plenty games where fans would call out Staal, Scuds and Gill. Staal was always in trade rumors, I remember several times reading articles about Staal needing to produce more when x player was out.

Never thought about it. That wouldn't be good at all. How many picks do they lose if this goes through?

He received much criticism for not being able to produce as much as we expect him to when Crosby was down. There were some questions about his passing/vision. We expected him to be perfect that's all

I'm torn now. It's not like they are getting a bargain from ROR. It's $5 mil/year.

Unless Calgary goes off which I doubt this is going to end badly for CGY. ROR as the face of a franchise?

I can't see any reason why the Avs should match.

If they match, they can't deal for one year, which likely puts them past 2014 deadline, so they'd have to qualify him at $6.5mil. They could work out a long term deal at a lower cap hit, but with the relationship between O'Rielly and Sherman now, can anyone see that happening?

They will get a high first and high third rounder, which doesn't replace O'Reilly on the roster, but they could use one of their 1st round picks in a deal or just keep them and draft for the future.

Colorado shouldn't match. I just think CGY is impatient making stupid signs as if they were close to be contenders.

Btw, anyone see DiPietro news?
Kevin Maher, who conducted the DiPietro interview for News 12, posted on his Twitter feed: "DiPietro also admitted injuries, losing and fan hatred over the past 3 years made him think about killing himself at one point."

Maher also posted a quote from DiPietro on his reaction to being waived by the Islanders: "they ripped my heart out, stabbed it, set it on fire and flushed it down the toilet." And when asked if he felt he remained a part of the Islanders' future, he quoted DiPietro as responding, "I don't know."

This actually helps Iggy and the flames in the short term. They upgraded their lineup without giving up any roster players.

Yeah but, If I'm Iggy I know I have about 3 yrs left, 4 tops...And I see management signing a guy like this and giving up a 1st and 3rd, I have a foot out the door. This does not make the Flames a playoff contender, just a new guy with an attitude problem.

See if it's on NBC Sports or NHL Network. I noticed when games are on those channels, it won't be on center ice. I hope you get those channels....
