Gagne is not a player you want in the middle of the box around the net. Hartnell was 2nd in the entire NHL last Season with 16 PP goals, so it seems as though he can do it without falling down. And Schenn has looked very good in his spot on the 1st unit PP. In my opinion, leave Gagne where he is on the 2nd unit, and let him add some experience and puck movement to that unit.

Who did he replace on the 2nd unit last night?

If you compare the rosters of the pens and oilers for each players first 5-6 seasons I think its not hard to make a case that mario was better.

It's possible. Those Oilers teams had what 7 HOF on them.

The sad thing is, his actual article yesterday was good. But when he tweeted it, he got people all jacked up and they ignored the content.

Hell the Briere for Shattenkirk rumor got legs off his story, despite the fact he said in the column it'd take more than Danny to land him.

The problem is, Frank's the boy who cried wolf.

I'll have to take your word for it. I don't read much from the beats anymore.

I can understand and even agree with playing McGinn over Knuble. But not Harry Z over Fedetenko. Fedetenko has become a whipping boy of late. Why I dont know. What is anyone expecting? Harry Z really doesn't being much to the lineup besides speed. Fedetenko is a veteran play, who can play well defensively. And is a key player for this team on the PK. Remember in the begining of they eyar when the PK was struggling. Now that Fedetenko and talbot have had some time to gel there, it is much improved. Fedetenko is far more important to this lineup then Harry Z is. Plus, take him out, that means Giroux is likely to spend more time on the PK. And that's not good in my opinion. Have to look at what roles players play on a team.

Wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that he has lost a step and then some, he has lost his scoring touch and he can't win a draw to save his life, would it? He is great on the PK. He had a solid game last night, aside from losing the draw that ultimately ended up ruining the shutout. He looked decent with the energy guys, but he is a shell of what he used to be as a player.

I clicked the link because his tweet said that Briere refuses to waive NMC & I anted to see the quote.

Except Briere didn't say that, exactly. He said something similar to what Gagne said before he was traded.

From the moment they signed him, I didn't expect any degree of scoring. Not that I felt it was impossible, but the guy was brought in to do the yeoman's work.

That's the problem. He is a role player. He brings a certain skill set, and that's why he was signed. To play a defensive role and to play on the PK. Expectations are a lot of times the issue, not the player. Fedetenko is not a face off specialist. Before this Season with the Rangers and the Pens, he's taken about 30 draws a year. He's already taken 93 this year.

I think he's only been slightly below my expectations. I certainly didn't expect him to score but his defense hasn't been as good as I thought at even strength. Still a god PK guy. I think our expectations were raised by his play in the KHL during the lockout too.

It's not an indictment on Jones, per se, but defensemen are so much harder to project at the NHL level. Too much of a risk with a top-3 pick.

The article itself, touted as "exclusive" has one quote from Briere, which would suggest that there was little one-on-one interview time (although I wasn't there and don't know that for sure).

Secondly that lone quote from Briere says, Briere has a full no-movement clause - meaning he can't even be sent to the minors without his permission - and will not waive it to be dealt to any team in the NHL, regardless of destination.

"I don't want to comment on anything at this point. Trades are not my department. I've been a Flyer for a long time. My heart belongs in Philadelphia with the Flyers. I can't see myself playing anywhere else."

Where is there anything first-hand about refusing to waive the NMC if it comes to that? There isn't. Yet there's a paragraph that leaps to that very conclusion.

"Briere has a full no-movement clause - meaning he can't even be sent to the minors without his permission - and will not waive it to be dealt to any team in the NHL, regardless of destination."

Well, hang on. Was this followup directly asked of Briere? If it was, I'd assume if it were, the paragraph would say "Briere confirmed that he will not waive his no-movement clause under any circumstances" or some such.

If the followup question was not asked, then there's no room for doing more than speculating -- and making crystal clear that it is ONLY speculation -- that he does not seem inclined to waive should the hypothetical situation turn into a real one.

What Briere said is the stock answer every player would say if asked about being traded NMC or not.
