Based on some comments I've read on Seth Jones. I would not trade both #1s to move up to draft him.
- MJL

Well I mean some later picks would have to come back our way too.

I'd keep both picks and take my chances on drafting the players available.

Colorado did not want to spend more on O' Reilly then they did on Matt Duchene who got a two year deal for $7M coming off his entry level deal. The offer sheet ended up costing them an extra $3M, but at least they got the 2 year and not the longer deal that O'Reilly was looking for.

But since the salary in the 2nd year is so high, that doesn't help Colorado with what they're looking for as far as a two year deal. He'll be an RFA when the deal is up, who's pretty much guaranteed 6.5M again in a new deal, when this deal expires.

I'd be looking to trade O'Reilly if I was Colorado, after a year.

His hold out and then the stupid contract sheet from Feaster screwed Colorado.
Maybe they are planning on dealing him at the trade deadline in hopes to get more back then the 1st and 3rd rd picks. It is going to be awkward for him in Colorado I would think.

Well they have to wait a year before trading him.

To be honest I dont see the Avs getting a better offer than a Top 10 pick and a 3rd. You really don't see Top 10 picks traded much anymore unless the player is a legit All Star. O'Reilly is still pretty far from that.

Is that the rule on matching an offer sheet?
When is the earliest he could be traded?

Start of Free Agency I believe. Same for Weber this year.

Well it seems as though Calgary was trying to trade for him. So I don't know what they were offering.

I think it is one Calendar year from when they match the offer.

Well you shouldn't go based on some generic statements made by some. You should actually watch Seth Jones before you make that assessment, no? Just saying.

IMHO, I believe Homer badly wants an elite d-man as evidenced by his pursuit of Suter and Weber in the summer. I don't think he is moving any of the young forwards without getting a d-man back who can come close to replacing Pronger.
- ravishingone

Agreed. The team doesn't lack puck movers. Everyone on the D corps is a competent puck mover to some degree, so I don't see this as an area of need. They do however, need a bonafide #1 (read, elite D man) who isn't ancient. Looking from a macro perspective, the deadline for obtaining this #1 is after next season, when Timonen is done, though if he can be had sooner, at the right price, so be it. Not saying he's truly elite (though it is debatable) I would absolutley take Big Buf for the right price if he's available. He's pretty close to the overall package and would complement the existing D corps nicely imo.

The statement I'm referring to on Seth Jones weren't some generic statements by an unknown source. The statement I'm basing that opinion on is from someone who I consider a very reliable source, who also has access to scouts and NHL talent evaluators. And that is Bill Meltzer. Other then the recent Junior Tournament, I have not seen Jones play much.

The best scouting report is watching the player play. Rather then relying on an outdated generic scouting report. That is the point. His skating is not why he is currently not producing more offensively. Look at the chances he gets. And also playing with a guy like Gagne is going to do wonders for him. His skating is fine.

never relied on any phucking report and you know it. stop lying

it's the #1 area for improvement. no question and i think this is an accurate assessment then and now:

"Compared to the rest of the package, his skating is only average with the first few steps needing some extra work"

- isaiah520

Most younger players coming into the NHL have room to improve their skating along with a number of other areas. Shoot, even older veterans can improve their skating if they focus and train for it (a la Hartnell who took powerskating). Right now, at 20 yrs old, it seems like Couturier is perhaps having some challenges in terms of developing into his body and refining his considerable raw talent as an NHL'er. His skating, shooting, playmaking and decision making all have room to improve over the next few years as he develops to his potential.

why in the world did EA sports allow people to use real money to buy HUT packs?

It also helps him in arbitration. The lowest he can get there is 85% of the salary he received in the last year of his deal.
