Flames acquire McGrattan to provide protection for their good players. Step two of the plan: acquire good players.

And that's your opinion. That does not make it reality. Your opinion is no better than mine or Eklund's or anyone else on here.
- phillydentist

Find me some reasonable and knowledgeable hockey fans, writers, bloggers, etc. that would agree that Shattenkirk for Briere and a 1st is fair and get back to me.

The whole you never know until you try. And the repeated suggestions of Briere and a 1st for Shattenkirk, is playing fantasy Hockey. You even expected a 2nd round pick in return for the deal.
- MJL

Those are trade ideas. LOL. We are all speculating. This is a hockey board.

You the hockey board trade Nazi?

Yea I've done a few worst case scenarios with the cap space. The main points I put were that Petro gets 7.4m, Shattenkirk gets 6.4, and Stewart gets a 1m raise. Other players remained relatively the same because the contracts they were offered before matched with their stats are still market value. The numbers I came out with were 58m. Leaving a 6m cap space, which is reasonable because the new ownership has stated it is more than willing to pay to win. We now have an ownership in St. Louis that lives in St. Louis and genuinly wants to put a winning team on the ice.
- Blueshockey47

Those are pretty much the same numbers I had, but Berglund is gonna get a raise as well, no?

Either way.. that 33 mil is gonna disappear VERY quick.

Has that happened yet? If it hasn't, then everything is on the table.
- phillydentist

Right, which is why I said let's get Weber also. Everything is on the table.

I don't have to. Actual trades are more bizarre sometimes than speculation.

We are not discussing the proof for the expansion of the universe.

This is all speculation. However, some of us know we are just speculating while others think they really are experts.

Nothing wrong with speculating on trade ideas. But some sense of reality should be included in that speculation. Or you're just playing fantasy Hockey.

It doesn't take an expert to know that Briere & a 1st for Shattenkirk is ridiculous and not worth speculating about.

Simon Gagne gets a goal in his first game back with the Flyers. Good Trade. GM Paul Holmgren needs a break with one of these trades

I guess Cherry didn't like the return for Carter and Richards. What a clown this guy is.

Just because they're scouting Briere doesn't mean they're considering moving Shattenkirk.

If you have a team that is a legit contender, and are looking to add a proven playoff performer, why trade a huge piece off your current roster?

I'd be looking to trade picks or prospects, like Cade Fairchild or at best Ian Cole.

- Jsaquella

I understand that, but again if they came to Homer and asked about Danny, Homer is going to do whats best for the flyers and try to help his team. I didnt say they were looking to move Shattenkirk all I am suggesting is that is who Homer has put his sights on if he is gonna go through all the trouble to get Danny to agree to waive his NTC...I dont think St.Louis came to Homer and offered Shattenkirk but Homer sure as hell is gonna try to get a player like that outta there

Sure he'll try. I'd be pretty happy with getting a 2nd and a guy like Cole for Briere

But like Nashville, St. Louis has limited funds. They'd at least have to think twice before agreeing to match a deal heavily loaded with upfront bonus money.
- bradleyc4

No no no...New CBA says no more frontloaded contracts. Also, a gm that just throws out offer sheets at every RFA he likes will have a tough time finding trade partners down the road. If you think that offer sheets are just ways to grief small/middle market franchises than your very wrong, why didn't he offer sheet Subban if he's throwing them out left and right?
