Nah, just being rational.

It's one thing to make trade conjectures. It's another to say someone else's will never happen in 3 trillion years.

One is just having fun. The other thinks he's the other team's GM.

Contract count related?
- BulliesPhan87

Still have the same number, though. Only way it makes sense is if they wanted McGrattan, but didn't have a slot open.

Considering the changes to contract structure in the new CBA (no more front loading to cripple a small market team), I think the offer sheet route has much less chance of "working" moving forward
- eayost

because it had such a high success rate before the new CBA

I dont know if you add a defensive player along with Briere ( who they reportedly want) plus a prospect and a high pick I truly they would be crazy not to consider it
- nonpoint22

Shattenkirk leads all dmen in points and is only 24. He's a legit top pairing defenseman with the potential to be a #1 (Pietrangelo is a franchise dman but you get the idea). Why in the world would St. Louis trade him for a 35 year old with 2 years left on his deal at a $6.5 million cap hit? If they're going to trade Shattenkirk, why wouldn't they try to get a better/younger player than Briere?

Possible, but why trade it for another contract that just cleared waivers?

Still stuck with the same number of contracts on the books.

- Jsaquella

As opposed to claiming McGrattan on waivers and being stuck with both contracts.

You don't have to ask for Pietrangelo when you can offer sheet him this summer...

You don't know until you try...

- phillydentist

They wont offer sheet Petro when the Flyers KNOW that the Blues can match any offer.

He is just a shell of his former self. It's kind of sad to see because he used to be so exciting and dominant. What the heck happened?

My guess PED

Yeah had that thought a second later....still, seems strange to want McGrattan that badly.

But like Nashville, St. Louis has limited funds. They'd at least have to think twice before agreeing to match a deal heavily loaded with upfront bonus money.

Ask Doug Armstrong, but if the reports are corrected they were here scouting Danny and inquiring about Danny so obviously they have some interest and for a team like St.Louis I dont think his cap hit much matters cause they probably wont come close to cap ceiling anyway

That's the thing. If they match, they might have to pay more than what they wanted to and that takes away from their ability to keep Shattenkirk.

What are you talking about? Every educated hockey fan knows that no team would trade Kevin Shattenkirk for Danny Briere and a 1st. That's an illogical conjecture that's really not even worth debating because the probability of it happening is infinitesimal.

I'm not saying they aren't interested in Danny, I'm saying that they would never give up Shattenkirk for him. We'd be lucky to even get a 1st.

Have you considered all the options? Such as St. Louis signing both of them to new deals before July 1?

If I am Homer and they ask about Danny I turn and ask about there second best puck moving defenseman...which is what he did which is why this isnt going to happen

And that's your opinion. That does not make it reality. Your opinion is no better than mine or Eklund's or anyone else on here.

The whole you never know until you try. And the repeated suggestions of Briere and a 1st for Shattenkirk, is playing fantasy Hockey. You even expected a 2nd round pick in return for the deal.

Just because they're scouting Briere doesn't mean they're considering moving Shattenkirk.

If you have a team that is a legit contender, and are looking to add a proven playoff performer, why trade a huge piece off your current roster?

I'd be looking to trade picks or prospects, like Cade Fairchild or at best Ian Cole.
