The Blues have 33 million in Cap space next year. I think it's safe to say they are staying with the Blues unless a trade happens.
- Blueshockey47

what is there internal cap....most teams cant afford nor are willing to go to the cap ceiling.....one of the things that make Briere attractive cap wise is although his cap hit is 6.5 million per year he is only owed 5 million total in the final two years of his deal

I'd do Briere and a 1st for Shattenkirk and their 2nd. Briere helps them more than Read does for what they want to do and thats win the Cup the next 3yrs. If the Flyers miss the playoffs, I get the feeling that will be a sweet 1st rd pick and so I'd want their 2nd back. If they have a deep playoff run, their 2nd is almost like a high 3rd so it's not as lopsided for us as it looks.
- phillydentist

Thats insane.

If we were to ask for Shattenkirk.. they would likely want either Schenn, Voracek or Couts... TO START

St. Louis would never accept that offer in 3 trillion years.

I guess we have Armstrong's personal representative on this board.

Flames traded Joe Piskula to Nashville for Brian McGratton.

So yes, they just traded a player for a guy that cleared waivers.

You obviously have not taken this upcoming FA in to consideration, have you?

AP is getting a HUGE raise. Shattenkirk.. should be getting a huge raise. Ian Cole and Kris Russel need to be paid. Andy McDonald is gone, do you resign or try to replace? Chris Stewart needs and Berglund need to be paid.

I agree on Fedotenko. I have no problem with his game. Although, I don't expect him to score boat loads of goals. Fedotenko is a stablizing factor on the 4th line. Let HarryZ and Ronaldo do their jobs, and let Fedotenko be the anchor.

HarryZ versus McGinn means a different line up. I don't see McGinn playing the fourth line. I say rotate them depending on the opponent - If its a big team, McGinn or if the team is quicker, HarryZ.

Look we need a whipping boy. Carle, Carter, and JVR are gone. Feds has picked up the mantle quite admirably along with Regular Season Danny.

Never. Armstrong isn't an idiot.

I dont know if you add a defensive player along with Briere ( who they reportedly want) plus a prospect and a high pick I truly they would be crazy not to consider it

You just helped make my argument why STL can't ask for the moon for Shattenkirk. Holmgren can try to poach Pietr/Shatt this summer with offer sheet(s).

Considering the changes to contract structure in the new CBA (no more front loading to cripple a small market team), I think the offer sheet route has much less chance of "working" moving forward

Yea I've done a few worst case scenarios with the cap space. The main points I put were that Petro gets 7.4m, Shattenkirk gets 6.4, and Stewart gets a 1m raise. Other players remained relatively the same because the contracts they were offered before matched with their stats are still market value. The numbers I came out with were 58m. Leaving a 6m cap space, which is reasonable because the new ownership has stated it is more than willing to pay to win. We now have an ownership in St. Louis that lives in St. Louis and genuinly wants to put a winning team on the ice.

Really? Because the Flyers wasted a lot of time trying last summer, and came home empty handed. I wouldn't gamble on a franchise getting by on strong hockey (rather than just a naturally strong market) letting one of their biggest assets go.

I think Homer would do what he can to secure the services of whatever player he goes after so he doesnt have another painful offseason of waiting and disappointment like the previous one

Possible, but why trade it for another contract that just cleared waivers?

Still stuck with the same number of contracts on the books.
