Hard to argue X. This softie bring nothing. He is not a Garth pick so why is he still on the team? At least sit the guy.
- ses111

Cause Garth gave him the 5 year deal, dragged him out of college etc..

He doesn't want to admit a mistake

Oh I'm sure

So you think JT would sign a 15 year contract with the Isles right now at over $2 million below his annual market value? And you can say you're SURE of it?

Not to make this into something it's not but not funny on the suicide jokes.

I felt awful reading that. We all knew it wasn't easy on him playing like crap and getting booed all the time but I certainly didn't think he was seriously depressed.

- Isles316

WHAT?? How could he not be?

The injuries alone & the rehab would have anybody fin depressed, add on to that the turning of the fans, the pressure, it doesn't take much for someone to become depressed... and he has had much more then his share

JT is a superstar not an average player. More average players in this league then superstars so yeah I'm sticking with more people would have signed that deal then not

See there is the problem, he wasn't middle of the road when he signed it, he was an up a coming NHL star.

I mean suicidal. Of course he was depressed or upset. There is a big difference in being sad, upset and being depressed to the point of not wanting to feel that pain anymore you end your own life, it's a horrible place to be at.

Not a good comparison. JT has already proven to be a point-a-game player. DP was far from proven when he signed his deal. I think a lot of unproven players would take a 15-year contract for millions of dollars.

Which begs the question...a goalie coming off a .900, 3.02 season is worth $2M more than $4.5M/year? I think the understanding was it was an overpayment at the time with the potential to be an underpayment later...still a big gamble that favors the player far more than the team.

DiPietro was NOT considered by most outlets and average player at that time. He was an all star goaltender who Martin Brodeur himself thought was going to be one of the best goaltenders in the league. While plenty had major doubts about him at that time, most felt he was beginning a career as a potentially elite goaltender. He was seen as a peer to Lundqvist at that time and took $4.5 mil while Lundqvist took over $6 mil. So while the term was ultimately stupid for the Isles, the amount was not.

Agreed and anyone that endures just a single year of rehab often talks about going through stages of depression. We're talking nearly half a decades worth and constant ridicule from fans as well. I think a majority of people would find themself in a dark place during all that....though the money helps!

He made 1 all star appearance and that's because they had to pick somebody from the Isles and I think Darren Van Impe already had a vacation planned with his family and backed out

Oh stop...He has $67.5 million reasons to man up and get over it. If he cries hard enough he will be back in our crease

According to news 12, he said he thought about ending it...which is sad to me. I've dealt with depression/anxiety for almost 20 years now. It's so hard to imagine why anyone would want to end their lives if you haven't been seriously or clinically depressed. I don't wish it on anybody.

He was a starting goaltender for the US Olympic team and was in the All Star Game. He wasn't Marty Brodeur but he wasn't Eric Fichaud either. Deserved or not, he was the 1st overall pick and was considered one of the brightest up and coming goalies in the league.

A. Miller should have started over him
B. Should have been taken nowhere near the 1st pick overall
C. Fichaud was better
