Would love to kept chatting but have to go.

Have a good day.

IDK about their talent level? I usually agree with you but we'll disagree on this one. There is some but feel it's limited.
- Cptmjl

Yeah, I'm not saying this team is Chicago or Pitt. or Boston, or anything like that. But talent-wise, I think they're closer to a 7-10 team rather than a 12-15...if they were a well-coached, disciplined team. Basically, I believe we're past the point where we can say, "No coach could win with this team" as an excuse. I believe the right coach could pull off a 7th or 8th place finish with this team. Or at least bounce between 8th and 9th rather than between 11th and 12th. Keep in mind, it's a very small gap between those two scenarios; one I think good coaching could close.

Over 4 years? Let's wait and see what that point total looks like after the four year term, not 20 games into the first season. He's going to get his points, Matt Duchene is no Tavares but the kid is still a wicked player. PA will put up decent stats but I seriously doubt he'll sniff at 67 points again.
- keaner17

Really? I can see him doing it. He may not be a great player in year 4 of his contract but not many players play awesome in their last year of the contract.

There can often be a fine line between bubble teams and true contenders. Provided just two or three of our prospects pan out over the next two years the team will appear light years ahead of where they are now. The big question is what our offseasons look like with Barclay in the near future now.
I think the addition of Mayfield, Reinhart, Strome, Nino and Kabanov will be enough to take even the present form of this team and turn them into a deep, dangerous club.

Maybe? What's the point though? This team is so far from being a playoff competer. They'd get trounced by anyone once they got in.

We'll see. I think there are a lot of PA caliber players in this league. I don't think he'll keep it up. Regardless, 19 games out 294 total...It might be a tad early to say he's worth the money.

disagree with everything BUT the bold last line...i wanted him traded; i had a feeling he was going to go where the most money was being offered...and rightfully so.

as for the first part, i understand what your saying, we just have a difference of opinion on the approach. i think they can replace pap with a much cheaper alternative and use that money saved to something that cant be replaced immediately IE dman

- LetsGoIsles

And that's fair enough, we can all see things the exact same way.. ultimately... he should have been traded.

Unfortunately we're all reminded of how this team is struggling during this perpetual rebuild with each and every frustrating loss. I think Cappy's God-awful coaching makes that growth appear even slower than it really is.

The toughest point to get accross is that we are restocking TWO, not one, TWO hockey teams almost exclusively through the draft. Given the typical success rate of draft picks impacting the NHL and average time for development of said projects, you can certainly see why calling this a 5 year rebuild was a bit too optimistic in my opinion. That said, I do think with the addition of some of the players we've seen, things will turn fast if we can manage to find just 2-3 decent Free Agent signings. Garth has made his share of mistakes, but given the climate he's working in, I think he has the toughest GM job in recent memory.

Crawl before you walk; walk before you run is the point I guess. Frankly, I'm sick of crawling and feel we could at least be at the "baby takes his first steps" phase with what we have. I guess I just don't feel we're quite as far away as you do, although I do recognize the areas where upgrades are needed (first line RW, second line center, at least two D). I just feel like, despite those holes, we're better than where we are.

no way you believe that if the islanders signed pap, they would have signed boyes...do you?

they are both the same type of player...soft and a stop gap till prospects are ready. they both arent physical enough to be on the 3rd or 4th line and having boyes AND pap would stunt the development of someone currently in the top 6
