Simmonds, Couturier, Schenn, Voracek>>>Carter,Richards

Simmonds alone outscored both Richards and Carter. Couturier and Schenn ensure a bright future along with present at C for PHI. Voracek just a cherry on top.

I like Hodgson. I think he has shown here that he is a team player, I guess you could point to the fact that he was unhappy in Vancouver but that kind of made sense. He is a little shaky in the defensive end, but I think that will come in time. That bad aspect of his game I think has been exaggerated a bit too. I don't necessarily think that Kassian will score many goals, but what he is good at is hitting, creating space on the ice, and starting fights. He wasn't playing well at all in Buffalo when we traded him, and only really has played well in Vancouver when he is playing with the Sedins. Yes I know Hodge is playing with quality lineys too.

We needed an offensive center, they needed a tough guy. Win-Win. I think Cody has a lot more upside than Zach. I agree with you though that you can't just look at stats, but I agree with OP that Cody is a better long-term overall player than Zach.

Gaustad left a huge void in our lineup and it has absolutely showed this year. I miss the hell out of him and wish that we could have brought him back from Nashville this year somehow. Gaustad is absolutely > Hecht. Long term I think it will work out because he got us Girgensons but for now it hurts. A lot.

Kass hitting, nope,nodda,zilch....hes been Slow as of late; he fought few times but that was meaningless...falling down the chart in Vancity..AV had him on the Top line at the start, now hes playing 4th line minutes.....somethings wrong with this kid.........plus its AV fault, anyhow i gave SaBres the lead on this trade.....i still feel that way.......Zack lost his confidence

Right, cause as long as you have your name on the cup you're better.

No you wouldn't. If you think this teams problem is size amongst the forwards then you either don't watch sabres hockey and are a troll or you're complete moron. Have you seen this team play D it makes me wanna throw up, regurgitate my puke and then throw it up again. Both teams made a trade that filled a need. Isn't that what the whole purpose of a trade is? sheesh

Well yea kinda. They were causing "problems" in Philly and were the leaders of the team. They get traded and help LA win the cup. Its not like they were 4th line guys. They were top line guys who made a big difference in the playoffs.

I love these cross conference comparrisons with no thought for anyone's individual role on the team.

When Kassian was playing with the Sedins you guys were all over our boards saying the same things. A few of us in here laughed at you and said because hes playing with the Sedins. Now that hes no longer on the top line, hes invisible. Wow hes hitting. Wow hes fighting. I understand you guys had to trade Hodgson because he was playing behind Kesler and Sedin and was never going to make it into top 6. But to say that you got fair trade value in Kassian is an absolute laugher. Hodgson is the best player in this deal, and he will always be the best player in this deal. Buffalo robbed you. Other teams wouldve paid a ransom. Not some unproven, all based on potential, most likely role player for a top 6 future leader.

And I say this while I'm not a fan of Hodgson or Kassian.

Foligno > Kassian
- theblueandgold

i think foligno is more like andreychuk, i don't have a comparison to kassian because we don't know if he'll actually develop properly but although they're kind of the same build wise, i think foligno hits a little more and uses his body more and is more apt for the garbage goal and kassian can actually create.

whether kassian actually shows grit with that skill is the same as whether hodgson shows defensive abilities once he puts everything together. it's hard to know. i still think cody could be yzerman-like by the end of this...

This thread is gold.

"My player is tougher than your player"

The Canucks are a good team in spite of Kassian, not because of him. They have more top-end talent than the Sabres, and two all-world goalies. It certainly isn't because of Kassian. And, in the same breath, the Sabres sucking certainly isn't because of Hodgson. The kid is a PPG player on a bad team.

And I love all the Flyers (???) fans on here ripping Buffalo. YOURS IS THE NEXT COACH THAT WILL BE FIRED.

Well Coho seems to have already achieved alot of that, although defense and foot speed do come into question. I do not see a selke in his future but i do see a consistent 90 point player which could come as soon as next season.

The big guy needs some time no doubt, consistency is the issue, but the grit and fearlessness is nice to see on a soft canucks team. I dont fall in line with those touting him as the second coming of Bert, but if he can consistently put up 60 points and play that rough game he loves then il be one happy fan.

Truly enjoy watching both players hit the ice, was more arguing the wording of Kev's blog, which i assume is exactly what he wanted

Players like Kassian and Hodgson don't grow on trees. Both of them bring something very different and very special to the table. It was a great hockey trade. I don't think they would have found a player like Kassian that would have been available anywhere else in the league. The huge jump in development by Foligno made him expendable. Both are similar players in a lot of respects, so it made it easy for Regier to pull the trigger and move Kassian to fill another area of need. It was a trade that fulfilled needs for both teams. Those don't seem to happen too often these days.

I still would take Kass's grit. Buffalo's in last place for a reason. Their tough guy has no skill. Kass has really lit a fire under this whole team in regards to their physicality. I am more than happy with how it's turned out. Its easy to determine who won the trade. Check the standings

Thats whgy kass is playing 6 minutes last game? He is no good. Keep dreaming. Coho is nothing special either, but he is light years better them John C Reilly's evil twin, minus his front tooth!

Cody make Vanek and Pommer more productive. That IS something special.

The Sabraes finally having a true first line is a good thing. For some, they don't appreicate it as much as they should. Probabaly because everything else about the Sabres suck

It continues to be the dumbest argument going, two very different players that filled two very different roles rather well. Bottom line is were still two teams that have about the same amount of hardware in the case but no cups.

Honestly though, with Kesler out and the apparent winger log jam, Hodgson would be more valuable to the Canucks at this moment. From what I've seen from Cody this year, his play has been solid. Of course having a red hot Vanek on your line helps, but certainly has something to do with that.

Hodgson > Kassian right now.

- Nucker101

These guys do entirely different things on the ice. Yeah the Canucks could've used a Centre right now but that has nothing to do with this trade and whether one player is better or who won the deal.

The Canucks got e what they needed the sabres got what they needed.end of story. I have no problem with Hodgson being traded for kassian. The guy has hands for scoring passing and fighting. I'm glad we get to see What Schroeder can do now. He's a smart player. If we had Cody we wouldn't know what we had in Schroeder.
