Yak Crosby Hemsky would be our only line...
After that, we would be so screwed. That would mean smyth would actually have to play :/ not to mention like one poster said, one more hit
To the head, and Crosby is careered.

We should not be discussing a Crosby or Malkin trade. For Letang it would have to be for cap reasons only.

basically, this is just another way of saying "his cap hit is more than he's worth" - sensarmy_11
Anytime you have to go to free agent market to acquire a coveted player, you'll have to pay a bit more. We feel Martin is making up to his salary THIS YEAR and is worth every penny. If I were to say, Martin would be a "very good" signing at $4mil/year.
Phaneuf plays like a $4-5 mil guy but makes what, $7mil? Bad bad cap

i don't disagree with any of that......i was just making a joke.
One of the dumbest things I've heard in the hockey circle in a while. The other being "Bryzgalov is just as good as Price and Quick" - Orpik44
i actually feel bad for oiler fans, most of whom are pretty level headed and realistic people. having that guy for a blogger makes everyone assume that most oiler fans are as big of a homer as him.....which i don't find to be the case. obviously some are....same as every fan base.....but i think that fan base, atleast on this site, is looked on so much worse because of their blogger
It really depends what happens with Despres with this year. If Shero was smart, he would consider moving him this summer. He can negotiate with him this summer (I believe). Keep in mind Malkin and MAF need new contracts also. Because Crosby took the same contract as last time, I wouldn't be surprised to see both of them take similar deals. Letang will easily get 6 from the penguins. I could stand a 3 or 4 year deal at 6mil per.
Lots of teams would be interested in Letang this summer and could probably get a pretty good deal for him too. Might be able to get more for him than what we got for Staal or what the Flyers got for Richards or Carter.
This playoffs really will decide what the future of the Penguins are. Would love to see them get in the Corey Perry sweepstakes.
That Bergeron-Crosby-Perry line during the 2005 WJC was just deadly.

If Letang will outprice Pittsburgh with the 6.5 or 7 mill about to be owed to him, why would they move him for one of Edmonton's kids, let alone two. RNH is exiting his entry level deal and Hall and Ebs have 6mil contracts about to kick in.
It's a good fit in terms of players, but not in terms of cap for either team.

But is Tambellini willing to consider one of his "prized" guys? I think he'd trade a Paajarvi but one of the others????

oh I think he would for a guy like Letang. The oilers might have all the offensive young talent, but until they get a serious goalie and better defense, they wont be able to beat teams in the Western playoffs.

I think they'd have to trade one of their big guns. There's not much hope of us being able to afford Letang's new contract with the guys we already have on the re-signing horizon.
If they're willing to accept PRV + 1st + 2nds + prospects (Klefbom, for ex.) + roster players for Letang, we'd take it and run, but I don't think they would.
