Yes Im sure guys skating after pucks are eager to turn and get smashed headfirst into the boards to try and draw a penalty.
- sanfordnson

He knows Brown is on him and he tries to turn away. You either take the puck and the body or you lay off of the puck.

Carlyle likes his dmen to be defensive first, which is why Liles and Gardiner are not playing now. They are weaker defensively but Holzer has been making some major gaffs that are costing the team.

BTW it was a penalty under the rules, but the players have to stop putting themselves in reckless positions if they want to clean up the game. This crap about putting everything in the hands of the officials sucks.

- stevecarpetman

What else is Gorges suppose to do there? He checked his shoulder, he leaned back and he went to get the puck. Is he suppose to move out of the way?

Both guys were going into the corner way fast and Brown was reckless.

Even if you wanted it to be called boarding, it's clearly stated in the rules that it's up to the referees and considering how violently he hit the boards, it would have been a 5 minute major anyway. Just because it's reality doesn't mean it's anti-Leaf.
- Two_For_Truth

Violently? You're exaggerating.

You've already exhibited that personality flaw you have where no one can have an opinion if you didn't generate it for roughly for pages now. You're going to think what you think regardless of what anyone else says.

You really are missing out how wading 4 hours of your life debating this hit is meaningless. It really is worthless in the grand scheme of things.

Cheers.

Watch some games from the 70's and 80's when the players still had accountability and respect for themselves and the other players.

I don't want to go all Don Cherry here but: before the helmet people kept their sticks down and slapshots were not randomly blasted anywhere, before equipment changes the players didn't throw themselves recklessly into the boards or net.

I'm not saying hockey was better then, it was good but not as fast paced and exciting as today, but players must look out for themselves and their other PA members. Players back then hated other team's players there was little friendship like today but much more respect.

Just give it a rest. It means nothing.

You're just ranting in a desperate search for people to tell you you're right about something.

Go to bed uggie.

I have to agree. It was a penalty by the rulebook. One could argue 2 or 5 but the misconduct was a little much.

I actually don't think he's being anti Leaf in his comment on this one.

Which makes no sense whatsoever. Who the hell turns to take a hit at that speed when the puck is in the corner? Nobody.

And you're very much right. He just may not be.

I'm just saying its worthless to beat it to death. It's not like that 'gaffed call' cost the leafs the game. There's no need for this to be exactly like everything else in Toronto, with people still ranting about it weeks later.

Goofball has already lit up a dozen pages over it.

It's water under the bridge. It doesn't matter whether it was a 2 minute boarding call, a 47 game suspension.. Or brown having to buy gorges a soda pop. Oh well..

Has anyone else noticed that the Leafs D has stared to let people into the slot again? They were doing very well keeping everyone to the outside and it somehow been exposed and they are cutting in off the boards and cycling low repeatedly because the Leafs compress the front of the net and only one guy chases behind the goal line. I think they need to rotate a few different position plans so they can't be exposed like they have the past couple games. Being predictable kills in this league.

Watch the 70's and 80's. Everyone did, you have to know the man is coming. He knew Brown was there he used the rule to his advantage hoping Brown would hold up. If you want to forecheck or backcheck you have to know the unwritten rules.

Game needed more hits. Leafs did not set the tone this game or put them into place the habs

Edit: With the habs made up of midgets, they should be pinned to the boards. A couple game changers could of been a fight between phaneuf and prust if phaneuf decided to drop the gloves despite him being on the pk. Would of slowed down the play and habs probably would not of scored. Grabo's penalty shot if only he scored.. could of changed the game..

Sorry but the game is a lot faster than it was 40 years ago. Nobody is going to abandon chasing the puck to turn and hit a guy coming from behind at that speed. Just doesn't make any sense.

We should trade for Cambell's kid so we can run roughshot over the competition without being called for it.

Well then I would argue they deserve to get hit. Whether it is our player or someone else's they have to be mindful this is a contact sport.

Not at that speed and not from behind, especially so close to the boards.

UG I agree with you it was a penalty but you have to agree that he knew Brown was coming and turned away from the hit. Therefore being half responsible for the hit from behind. If I'm bearing down on you you're going to turn to face me to confront the impact. I think they should call the player that turn their backs to hits for penalties too. It should be called endangerment or unsportsman and be a conduct penalty. that doesn't put your team down a man but gives you 10.

You can't expect a defending player to disregard the puck and turn around at full speed to engage a guy coming from behind.

You can't give guys a penalty for that. And Gorges wasn't even doing that in this situation.

Habs have been the best team in the east since the 6-0 game vs. the Leafs.

Sometimes a team needs a wake up call like that to spark them.

The Leafs were out-played for most of the game by a team who's game plan was to not match toronto's gritty play. It worked for the habs last night. Good for them. Let's see how that works out for them down the stretch and the play-offs.
