Horrible game.

Leafs played like poop. Thought Montreal was faster by the 2nd. Reimer will have to do something special tomorrow.

His hands were across his back and he came from behind. He wasn't parallel with him at all. He can't see what's coming if it's from behind which it clearly was. He checked his left shoulder and Brown came from the right side and threw him face first into the boards.

He didn't have the puck and Brown hit him. He also hit him in about 5 feet from the boards. So it was either interference or boarding.
- Khadgar

You can call interference, but not boarding. There was no hit from behind, rather from the side. I'm not disputing that a call could/should have been made, but rather I think that the wrong one was made.

Did it warrant a penalty? probably (I'll admit this now that its away from the heat of the game).

Was it the right one? Not a chance.

Just because he wasn't covering his numbers in their entirety, doesn't mean he wasn't touching his back.

If you want to stick to this line then have at it. It seems that most people (including the aforementioned professionals) share the same viewpoint as me.

UG.... I believe it was more of an actual boarding call more than a hit from behind.

It was a dangerous hit and sometimes it's unavoidable with the speed of the game.

The hit was in a grey area but in a danger distance from the boards.

It's a dangerous play that doesn't belong in the game. I like how Brown is physical and creates pressure by forechecking but at that speed, Brown was coming from behind and nudged him to throw him into the boards. It's plays like that, that can break a guys neck. The game doesn't need that.

Again, they have to make the calls based upon split second decisions.

The analysts get the benefit of time and many angles, and can therefore make a more informed and accurate decision. This is why the major decisions are sometimes reviewed by video.

Did you not see me post this before, or did you choose to ignore as it didn't fit with your rhetoric for tonight?

Mark Masters ‏@markhmasters

On @TSN1050Radio Kerry Fraser says Brown caught Gorges on 'right hip' not from behind; says bigger issue was distance to boards & late push

Mark Masters ‏@markhmasters

Kerry Fraser OK with major penalty on Mike Brown for Gorges hit BUT says Leafs tough guy shouldn't have been ejected

No one is arguing that it wasn't reckless or a 2min penalty. The issue most are having on here *and mainly against 1 other poster* is that it wasn't a hit from behind, and therefore brown shouldn't have gotten a 5minute penalty.

yes this is why i said Monday after the game that it was a huge win. In all honesty beating Montreal who is one of the hottest teams in the league right now for a 3rd time after embarassing them was 50/50 at best, and like you said were not great at back to backs... did not want a 3 game losing streak...
