There might be some situations where a team would have to play back-to-back nights at home or on the road but it's nothing that's so radical that it can't be worked with. Teams often have five or six game home stands or road trips. It's just a few extra games and a different cycle of playing games. - Two_For_Truth
I wonder if scheduling is a collective bargaining issue? I could see players saying even though it's less flying time, we don't want to have such long road trips as a matter of course.
All I know for now is having a bunch of Toronto vs. Detroit games is going to be super fun. And if they go to the divisional playoff system, a playoff matchup just suddenly got quite likely in the next bunch of years, amazing. Wouldn't it be appropriate if they do the Winter Classic in Detroit next year, and then the two teams meet again in the playoffs after so long, that would absolutely rule. |

You've got about half a dozen franchises in perpetual dire straits. Relocate 2-4 and fold 2. It's harsh, but so be it. The league would be stronger for it. - Leeman4Gilmour
It wouldn't be because the NHL would have at least two owners who lose hundreds of millions of dollars that they invested and the NHLPA would have 60 guys who lost their job.
You're concerned about making the league stronger? Relocate franchises to better markets. But contraction is never an option, nor will it ever be. |

McGinn. Brown effed him up pretty badly. - Leeman4Gilmour
Really? I knew he dropped him but I didn't know it was that bad. I turned and walked away when I saw Brown go down because I thought it was over. Didn't see what really happened until the highlights later. |

I doubt it. The players would probably prefer being on the road and at home for longer stretches. Gets all the long travel out of the way early in the season and gives them longer periods of time with their families. For the players, they would prefer to reduce travel time and increase the length of time spent at home.

Just wait until they start thinking about organizing outdoor playoff games. |

Why are six teams getting relocated? Which ones are you moving or folding? First you say, fold two teams now it's six. There doesn't necessarily have to be six teams that move. The bottom three or four are the only major problems.
Seattle, Quebec City, Wisconsin and Toronto are four prime locations for relocated franchises in the next five years. In time, perhaps others will present themselves. |

It wouldn't be improved. Improvement is strengthening franchises, not getting rid of them. By that same logic, the NHL would be spectacular as a 12 team league. Doesn't mean it makes any business sense whatsoever.
The NHL will be better and stronger when it has 30 franchises in 30 markets that can handle it. Losing two teams does not work. For anybody. - Two_For_Truth
Your logic is moronic. By your logic, the NHL would even be stronger with 40 teams in 40 markets that can handle it.
WRONG!!!!! Dilution of talent does not strengthen any professional sport.
