The NHL should be more like soccer in Europe.. Have Leauges in each country. So Canada, US, Scandinavia, and Russia/rest of Europe would have their own leagues.. Then have a championship round playoffs - Arctic_AARDVARK
In each country?
Do you mean both? It's hard to justify a "championship round playoffs" when you're flying across the Atlantic. |

North American teams would win pretty much every time. They'd make more money and could attract better players.
Unless you're talking about having nationality restrictions on the teams. - Feeling Glucky?
if there was restrictions then Canada would win every time. idk man,, sometimes those swede teams win in pre-season, and if they had their home grown talent they'd be a lot better. |

Yeah, let's start wildly exaggerating! How about we contract back down to 6 teams?! How's that for a crazy exaggeration that proves jack all?
The NHL has 30 teams. It's never going to be less than that. If they fold two teams, the NHLPA loses 60 jobs and the NHL has two owners who lost hundreds of millions of dollars. It devalues the other franchises, it loses player jobs and it doesn't benefit anybody involved.
Contraction is just as illogical as expansion. The only thing that makes sense is relocation. The owners don't lose hundreds of millions of dollars, the players don't lose jobs and the NHL can actually get stronger by being in better markets. - Two_For_Truth
What's your problem here?
My opinion is that the league as a whole would be improved by having at least 2 fewer teams. We'd have two fewer unsistainable franchises, less need for profit sharing, fewer labor disruptions, and better quality of hockey.
The NHL was a better league before it got dreams of expansion filling its head. That's an opinion, and not an unpopular one.
Yes, I realize that the league has 30 teams, and that if any are to fold, it will be done so reluctantly, obviously. The NHL under Bettman will ensure they at least go down kicking and screaming.
My argument wasn't that I think teams will fold, but that they should. |

The longer road trips actually make more sense because the teams don't have to go on the road for two games then go back home then go back on the road. Imagine a trip from Vancouver to Florida to Detroit, back to Vancouver then to Tampa Bay then back to Vancouver. It's a ridiculous amount of travel. By having longer road trips, you get as many teams out of the way as possible and reduce having to go back and forth all season long.
Home and home series just increases travel by forcing teams to go back and forth unnecessarily. Unless it's a home and home between Toronto and Buffalo but not all teams are that close to each other. - Two_For_Truth
Oh I totally agree the long road trips make more sense than zipping out and back constantly, I just don't know if it's feasible for scheduling. I honestly don't know, I just suspect part of the reason teams have to keep moving around constantly is because the schedulers for venues have a whole lot of different things to accomodate. I mean, otherwise I don't see why they don't do it. Because if you go on the road for a long stretch, that means you have to also be home for a long stretch and those long blocks of bookings aren't good for the resident basketball team, concerts, etc. But I get the point of the suggestion for sure.
Yeah, with home-and-homes that's what I have in mind, divisional home-and-homes. Or, say, Leafs play two in Boston, later in season Boston plays two in Toronto. I know they do home-and-homes already, I just would like more of them. |

Well have inter-league play throughout the season and have a points system. I'd love to see Toronto or Montreal play Moscow |

If the NHL could pull it off, they would do it in an instant. All the major North American leagues are dying to do that. But it's difficult. Travel, time zones, schedules, TV schedules. The NHL can't even make it work in America, good luck making it work globally. One step at a time. |

and who exactly will be giving us payback? Montreal is all small players and your bad boy Prust got taken out by Fraser, imagine if he went against brown HAHA - matt1337
Prust and Brown are pretty equal match ups.. Brown will win most of them but Prust is (frank)in tough man..... |
