I believe he will be suspended. An unnecessary hit in a game where the outcome was decided. It appears the hit caused an injury as well, which is a big factor in Shanahan's decision making.
- PLindbergh31

Slightly off topic. I want the NHL to adopt a new rule... Especially, if there is an injury. Either make it always or give Shanahan option to suspend a player vs a specific team. So, if a player gets suspended for X number of games for hurting someone - those games suspension should be only be counted against the injuried players team.

I hear what you are saying. You make valid points. No one loves big open ice clean hits more than me, doing it when the outcome isn't in doubt anymore doesn't sit well with me.

And if the shoe was on the other foot, and someone buried Giroux, or another of the Flyers skilled players in the same situation, people here would be going apepoop.

- PLindbergh31

Perhaps, but that's because people here are unstable.

How many lopsided games have you watched in your life? I bet quite a few, as have I.

I've RARELY seen a player go for a big hit in the last minute of a lopsided game unless it was in retribution for something.

When the hit presents itself in the flow of the game, you take it. Maybe we watch a different sport.

Figured maybe just to have an extra body around. Lilja's not exactly Erik Karlsson at his age

We must.

I've seen plenty of games this year when the players noticeably let up on hits during the latter stages of lopsided games.

If I pay $100 for a ticket to an NHL game, I expect the teams to play for real for 60 minutes. That's what is paid for. Oates defending the hit is sending a message to his own team that you play the entire 60 minutes regardless of whether you're winning or losing. No excuses. You don't get to dipsy-do in the neutral zone not expecting a hit just because there's 30 seconds left in a game you won't win. Good on him

There is such a thing as sportsmanship, but if you don't play tough for 60, you or someone else can get hurt.

Forsberg. Signed right before the game. He hit Mathieu Perreault with his spleen.

From the bench. Best throw I've ever seen at a Flyers game

Bill, what's your take on Briere's play of late? And how Lavi is, or isn't using him?

For all the griping about Briere, he has points in six of the last seven games (3G, 5A). As an offensive specialist, points are the main barometer for him. But he can play better than he has.

Katie Carrera ‏@kcarrera

Oates said he didn’t believe the hit was dirty, faulted Perreault for trying dipsy-doodle through the neutral zone.

This Oates guy must be some kind of Flyers scout

- Jsaquella

He's just making up for his stellar play as deadline acquisition in the early 00's.

Yeah, he's showing up on the stat sheet, and that's all that matters to me. Gotta say tho he's almost invisible for long stretches otherwise. Not used to that with him.

Dont want to scroll thru all the posts, but is there an update on what happened to Gus?? He was really doing well moving the puck, hate to see Lilja or Foster (slow a molasses) back in the line up..
