Well Briere really wants to play here so I'm not sure if money is all that important to him. He has a greater chance of playing here next year by being bought out by another team and signing a cheaper deal with the Flyers than he does staying with not waiving his NMC.

Edit: Also what Jsaq said a couple posts down.

I wouldnt mind that at all

Why would another team trade for him then buy him out? If they are trading for him its because they want his skill leadership and his $2-3 million he is actually paid the next couple years.

That's what's been proposed by members on here. Tell Danny that if he waives his NMC that we'll re-sign him for less assuming he's bought out by the team he is traded too.

The other team can buy Briere out, too.
- Jsaquella

Now put yourself in the other teams shoes... Would you buy him out after trading for him?

The cap hit is high but I'm not sure a team would buy him out. I guess it depends on the team.

Speaking of Chicago (significant Philly relevance in this article too):

He is already better than Meszaros was at the same point in his career. Mesz put up points right after the lockout when scoring was up and he was playing on a Senators team with an extremely potent offense.
- NickTheKid87

Yep. Mez did everything wrong. His partners gave him the high plus/minuses, his team got all his points. Contrary to Suter, Weber, Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk - he never has a regular defense partner. Don't know why he is in top 30 or so on all his stats. The guy is a bum.

I'm glad you blew that so far out of proportion. Didn't know it was possible.

I wouldn't, but it's possible they would. If the new team bought him out immediately, it'd be $833,334 for 4 years. If they waited until 2014, it'd be $666,667 for two years.

Regarding a compliance buy out homer shouldn't say anything to briere. If he buys out briere he still has to pay briere AND briere can get paid more by the team the he signs with (its double the pay day). If briere just waives his nmc and is traded he only gets the rest of his current contract. Put yourself in brieres skates, what would you do?
- moylander

Are buyouts at 100% of remaining contract?

I read Frank's story and he said in there that GM Armstrong was in Philly twice in a row and in Toronto to see Philly. Where'd he get that?

Idk... Either way, full or partial payout, danny is leaving money on the table if he waives his nmc now rather than taking the buyout after the season. Assuming the buy out is imminent.

I think right now, Shattenkirk is a #2 NHL defenseman. But probably would be the best among the current Flyers oveall.
- MJL

I dont get the whole #1 vs#2 thing. I see them in tiers...

You have your Karlsson's, AP's, Chara's, Weber's...

You have you Shattenkirks, Subbans, Kronwalls, Letangs, Timonens..

Then you have your Meszy's, Phaneufs, Carles, etc.

All of those guys are more than capable to play in a top pairing... but obviously some are better than others.
