St. Louis would never accept that.
- NickTheKid87

Would you do Couturier and a # 1 for Shattenkirk? That would probably be in the ballpark of what it would take.

Frank wrote about asking Briere if he'd waive his NMC because there's rumors that the Flyers asked him for a list of teams he'd agree to go to, if the Flyers are selling at the TDL.

Frank then wrote that the Blues were supposedly one of the teams and mentioned that the Flyers could use Shattenkirk.

That became the rumor, Briere for Shattenkirk.

- Jsaquella

I just read Blues and Boston and thought Shattenkirk.

Never gonna happen.

Eh, he wouldn't be a number one on most teams. This one probably though.
- GirouxForTheShow

If he wasn't the number 1 on most teams he would be soon enough.

Shattenkirk is much better than Carle and is also younger. He's already a top pairing guy and would/will be a #1 defenseman if not for Alex Pietrangelo getting that title.
- NickTheKid87

Shattenkirk is good, no question. He's got 150 games under his belt and other defenseman have posted up similar stats and mins in their first 150 games. See Meszaros's stats. He played top pairing mins for Ott his first 3 seasons and played great too. Maybe Kevin Shattenkirk becomes a Norris Trophy winner someday and maybe not. But don't assume he already is.

I would consider it in the offseason but I don't think St. Louis has any interested in moving him right now. He and Pietrangelo will both be RFAs in the offseason so we'll see how the contract negotiations go.

Younger by a few years yes, better contract yes, much better? I think hes a good player, but just like elliot a product of hitchs system. It doesn't hurt that hes paired with pietrangelo.

I'm not assuming he already is. He is a really good defenseman. A top pairing guy on any team. You wouldn't only be trading for his talent now, but for his potential. Hence why it would cost a ton to get him. He's already good and has the potential to be better. Also, there's a premium on top 2 dmen right now.

Flyers are going to have to add a young top pairing type guy to the mix sooner than later. Unfortunately the only likely way they will be able to do it is to give up a poop load of assets.

He played well in his short time in Colorado as well. He also leads all defenseman in points. You don't think he'd do that here? Look how well Carle fit in our system. Shattenkirk should be better.

I'd guess that is probably the ball park, and I wouldn't. I like Shattenkirk, but that's a huge price

Exactly. Too bad Columbus didn't have a Shattenkirk type player when Howson was around.

I would prefer to keep Couturier and the pick as well but I would at least consider it.

Two top ten draft picks are a tough pill to swallow especially considering Couturier is looking to be a steal. The #1 pick could be a lottery again with some high end prospects. Not sure id do that deal.

The point is that at 24 he is already a legit top pairing d-man whose offensive contributions are his bread and butter. You over pay to get that type of player in any trade.

And there's a chance Shattenkirk doesn't become any better than a less injury prone Meszaros once he is no longer paired with Pietrangelo.

I can definitely see Holmgren going hard after both of these guys a la Weber this summer.

It's a steep price. Not sure how the Flyers are going to be able to get their hands on a young top pairing guy.
