I was kinda surprised at how much the loss of Jagr affected Giroux. Giroux hasn't looked near as dominant this year. Didn't help that he also lost Hartnell for a bit either. Gagne offers a similar game to what Jagr did. Good secondary scoring, and a nice playmakers touch + good size around the net.

It already looks smart in game 1. Giroux put up a strong 2 point effort!

Great pick up by Philly

Voracek has been the key for Giroux. He plays very similar to ho Jagr played last year. Giroux also started last year a bit slowly, but now that he's had some games to get used to things, he's producing again.

Who would the Flyers want from Boston? The Briere to STL for Shattenkirk rumors makes more sense. Boston isn't going to move Dougie Hamilton.

It does make more sense though, whether its a pipe dream or not. Shatty is the type of defenseman we need.

"I'd hang onto G, the Schenns, Voracek, Simmonds, Couts, Hartnell, Coburn, Grossman, and Talbot. Continue to build around them and try to upgrade in the offseason. If they are out of a playoff spot try to get draft picks for players who will be UFA's (Fedetenko, Knuble, Gagne, Foster, etc if any team is interested in these depth players), and possibly Briere since he may be bought out of his final 2 seasons this summer anyway."

You are so ahead of the curve, it makes perfect sense for other teams to surrender draft picks that are worth something for Fedotenko (journeyman), Knuble (was previously playing in the minors), Gagne (Healthy scratch for how many games?), Foster (Healthy scratch on a team that probably wont make playoffs because theyre a debacle defensively). As a lifetime Flyers fan, I hate that I constantly have to cringe at the stupidity that I read on a daily basis. Way to go man, you just got a used puck bag in return for all the players you were offering.

Note: You are not getting anything in return for these players, you are an idiot and I am even dumber for having even responded to your hockey illiteracy.

On TSN Bob Clarke admitted that while Gags might not be at the top of his offensive game anymore (and took some blame for his injury handling) his defensive two-way game is something they'd like to rub off on Coots. While Talbot has been great helping Sean on the defensive side, I think Gagne might be be the right guy to bring out Coot's offensive game while playing good 2 way hockey.

I really do hope they put Knuble on that line too for old time's sake.

"Talbot’s been great helping Sean on the defensive side????????”

So that would explain why he’s tried to take defenders on 1 v 2 when his team's making a change... Responsible defense? Get the F’ing puck in deep and get off the ice.

Briere is not the Briere of old and he is not in demand. Some teams would drop a second or third for him as a rental for the playoffs but long term there would be little interest if any, and that is a fact.
- flyerdude17

Since I am on a roll... The stupidity continues.

So, a guy who basically year in and year out who has been less than brilliant in the regular season only to flick a switch and turn into a player who averages more than a point per game in the playoffs is not in high demand? Yeah... You’re right, who in their right mind would be gearing up for a long playoff run and not be interested in one of the most clutch playoff performers in the game? Oh shoot, I didn’t read your entire post, I now see that what you said "is a fact”. Nevermind, my opinion...

Although it would suit both teams' needs, it would take a lot more than Briere to pick up a 22 year old dman leading the league in scoring @ his position.

Without a doubt. I think Shatty's assist numbers are a little skewed because the Blues got off to a torrid start, as did he, but has cooled down tremendously. Even so, it would certainly take more than Briere. I just don't know how much more.

Considering the fact that we had MacInnis & Pronger for so long & Shattenkirk/Pietrangelo are this era's version of that, I highly doubt that Armstrong would part with Shatty unless the return is absurd. But with him (Army) @ Flyers games recently, one has to wonder what is being tossed around. Since the Blues are esp deep in prospects & the Flyers are especially thin (ranked 30th out of 30 teams @ hockeysfuture), I wouldn't be surprised if Holmgren moved a roster fwd for a boatload of picks/prospects. Am I totally off here?

I'd think that Holmgren would want younger guys, who are roster players or very close. I could see him interested in Ian Cole.

Also, I'd doubt that they move Briere until they're out of a spot. First goal is to make the playoffs.

The majority of the reason as to why we are dead last in prospects is he age of our top 6 roster players. Giros and Read are 25 and under, Schenn and Couturier are 21 and 20 respectively. Picks are always nice, but I would imagine young current roster players or soon to be roster players would be what Homer is targeting. In terms of actual need, definitely a pucking moving defenseman possibly one that could QB a PP would be perfect. Which is why Shattenkirk first came to mind, whether warranted or not just out of a desire to fill a big need.

Ian Cole is an intriguing name, as JSaq said. Also as Jsaq said, it's not set in stone that the Flyers sell the vets and retool for next year, we are in 8th place currently. First goal is playoffs.

Ah, I didn't realize that. Army's a savvy GM (Gm of the year, etc) & I have a hard time believing anything I read re: Blues trade rumors as they've pretty much only been wishful thinking by other teams' writers. ex: Oshie was sure to become an Ottawa Senator last year according to their media, the Blues were about to trade for Pronger a couple years ago, etc.
