I'm aware that Ryder is making 3.5 but his cap hit is 2.2 as per capgeek and nhlnumbers. - kev1586
Probably because he will play (2.2/3.5 = 62.8) % of the season...and Cole's cap hit will be 37.2% of 4.5M$ for this year... |

You know who was once awesome for 19 games? Pierre Dagenais.
I agree with you, it's a good trade. I just think the reasoning that we're going to evaluate 2 guys after a lockout and 19 games is ridiculous. If this trade happens before 1 game this season you still think you feel the same way? - habby
thank you

Maybe the other players on Dallas' PP didn't do squat? Or was it the other way around and he didn't help them? - jaymster790
I'm sure there's many reason. I'm just trying to figure out when Ryder became awesome. It's like people don't remeber we've seen a lot fo him already. |

6 points in 19 games for 14 points in 19 games is very lateral indeed. I'm done. - God_then_kovy
It's a lateral move.
All the crap Cole got for being defensively useless will go straight to Ryder.
Ryder gets more points.
Cole gets his teammates more points (forecheck where he creates mistakes and doesn't get a point on the play... something Ryder didn't do last time I watched him play). I've counted at least 4 of these this season for Cole.
Give Cole those 4 points for the sake of argument and you end up with 14>10. And that's with Cole playing what has been rather poor hockey by his own standard.
If that much difference makes you really believe that this isn't a lateral move to free up some cap space, then find a translator and watch the Cole interview on RDS where he sums up his discussion with Bergevin about the trade. |

with the Cole move, this allows Bergevin to go after Perry, Getzlaf and Clowe. That'll be the Habs new first line in 2013-14. You heard it here first! (E73) |

ok, last rant aside, I'd really rather be talking about my math in the other discussion. Am I not right here? It seems like MB has created enough cap-room for a rental with this trade, no? |

The best part is that Ryder's points are now transferred to the habs and they get to pick and choose which games they didn't loss!

I don't think the idea was to load up for the playoffs, it was to create cap space for next year without a big impact on the team this year and possibly avoid having to deal with a contract really hard to move down the line.
Can't see MB giving picks for short term help, quite the opposite actually. |
