Montreal's pp is currently 10th despite very little threat from the half boards from the right side and none from the left. Adding Ryder and his shot to the left can only help. If it doesn't we still win the trade for getting rid of Cole.

Because it's been awful recently. Only reason they're in the top half is because of the start it had. They're something like 3 for 35 recently.

Gionta still has value in my opinion, he just doesnt seem to excel in the new system. A swap of Gionta for Elias wouldnt be bad considering Elias is a UFA and if not resigned would leave even more cap for MB to play with in the offseason. The only thing is Elias is better than Gionta and will likely retire a Devil.

Cole sucks this year and Ryder has been good. The difference between sucks and good is significant enough to call this trade a steal without the need to call anyone awesome.
