Not saying Cole is the greatest in every aspect of the game, but compared to Ryder? Cole brings alot more to the table.

Oh i know 18 games very slow start and all that matters is those 18 games.
He will never be the same again

Oily, he had to go for various reasons:

1. When you have a new boss and coach and you are not acting very professionally (during the lock out) it didn't impress them, that's for sure. Strike 1.

2. Then you hint that you may not want to work any more (retire). Strike 2.

C. Then you female dog about how much money you are going to make. Pitch fouled off.

D. Then you show up and you are out of shape, be it hurt or not. If you are hurt, don't play, no? Ball 1

5. If you are not very good in the dressing room, as some have suggested. Strike 3.

The fact that MB dumped the player, the salary, and got the draft pick, is impressive, let alone land another player. imo.

Also, Ryder can't be as bad as circles was defensively, he was (frank)ing brutal.

For such a bad contract, I think that yes, it could be considered as selling high. I could be proved wrong, though, if Cole gets back in shape.

I found the journalists' hypocrisy funny yesterday, all saying:

"ALL HAIL BERGEVIN HE FIXED ANOTHER GAUTHIER'S MISTAKE"

while they all said since last year that Cole was Gauthier's best move.

- _nay_

Yeah, that's probably exaggerated for sure. Cole was not a mistake by any means. The term is another story though. if Cole is making 4.5 for last year and this year only, I don't think Bergevin makes this trade.

To be fair, a few questioned the length of the deal at the time.

Especially considering his history outside of Carolina. I think they'll end up missing him if they do manage to get into the POs, and no I don't think they're any where near a lock for the POs.

32 year old who had a career year. He slumped to start the season but even if he finds his playing style again, he'll likely never get back to last year's pace. It was a year were he got a boatload of default playing minutes because everyone else on the team was injured or useless.

Getting rid of salary long term, getting a prospect, and getting a similar player for the short-term. Yes, I would call this selling high.

- kev1586

2005-06 was his career year, 06-07 was still better then last year.

He averages 50 points, 4.5 mil for 50 points is the norm

It was only "bad" contract becuase the habs need to dump salary for next season

I could see Cole scoring 35 again playing with Benn.
- _nay_

He didn't score that many playing with Staal.

+ I thought Benn was also more of a guy who finishes the play...

Ya the offseason nonsense leaves a bad smell, would've been more forgivable if he had of shown up in a professional manner.

It will be difficult to replace DD without giving up some other asset to go with him. Could care less what happens to Gionta.

Howard... I am truly, deeply sorry for anything and everything.

I am an idiot for the most part and never post anything intelligent.

Fact is that we did give up a useful player. I was a fan of Cole and thought he had a great season last year. That being said, we are getting a proven goal-scorer who may or may not fit into MT's way of playing the game (something Cole was not, clearly) and if this player doesn't work, we get cap relief and a prospect. It's a win-win.

If much of the hearsay is true (about the school, the retirement and his behaviour over the course of the lockout), Cole might have to admit to himself at some point that the only place he'll ever truly be happy is Carolina and accept whatever coin they offer and finish his career there.

I just don't get how this is a bad deal. Cole was relegated to the third line at this point.

Yeah but do the habs trade DD before/at the deadline or keep him? Interesting to see if they keep Gio.
