Bingo. I think a good reason why Cole was traded was because of his comments before this season about retiring and his complaints. MB said it didn't matter to him but as Marty said, it's bullpoop. He doesn't want complainers. He was more of a nuisance on most nights this season, yes you can attribute that to his shape, but he didn't have the same drive.

Here's something from Capgeek:
The habs have a projected 12mill in cap space, but this doesn't include Kaberle being bought out.

Tinordi probably has bonuses in his contract so he is worth more then a mil i would guess.

and resigning Bouliion is atleast another Mil down.

so 5 more players with 7.5 mil or so, remember you don't want to be right up against the cap either.

Oh look at that Getzlaf and Perry each signed for 8 mil a piece, ah too bad

- Oilhab

Not to many teams will have the cap space to take on those contracts. Maybe Bergevin can come in and take a player from a team really cheap, so that team can sign Getzlaf for example.

The last two years of the contract are going to be tough. We will have to wait and see if he has slowed down or not, theres no way to tell. All I know is he looks nothing like the Cole from before.

Think Bouillon is calling it a career after this season. Tinordi should be the one who replaces him with PK. The cap hit of any contracts includes bonuses. So we'll actually save money.

I'm not saying they should sign Getz/Perry, but there could be space for them, if Bergevin opts to. Keep in mind though they have to sign PK the following year and Galchenyuk/Gallagher the next one.

and lose his precious PP?

I don't know if Markov has slowed down in the last 10 games, or has the other players caught up to him?

the point you are missing(ignoring) is that the only players the habs will be able to sign or trade for in your above scenario would have to have an annual salary less then 2 mil per.

and 2 mil per is pushing it.

know any sweet talent that makes less then 2 mil that another GM would be willing to give up on?

You think Anthony Duclaire from the rampatrs might fall to the third round? Or is he a second for sure?

Word out there is that Getzlaf should stay in ANA but that they won't have enough to keep Perry too.

I am not sure Bergevin is done. He has his own vision for a team. But one thing is sure, is that Bergevin said he wants to rebuilt true the draft and he also said that he wants to make the habs bigger, especially at center position.

I think this trade is only one piece of the puzzle, and there will be a lot more to come during the summer.

you are 34 coming off 6 months of a nagging injury and you are not in shape and have had no time to get in shape before camp, and you wouldn't think about retiring?

It was just a thought, once he starts feeling better those thoughts vanish.

Well it can't be worst then Gainey.

So far Bergevin has done a good job. Will wait and see what he does this summer before I can judge him.

He's the type of guy that usually falls. Very flashy player. But if he gets to the third it's pure larceny.

I just hope Montreal drafts big skilled players. And 1 or 2 Neil type players in the later rounds.
