4.5 mil for 50 60 points is not horrible
if you are looking at just points, the market pretty much reflects a 10 points per million standard now adays - Oilhab
That's if he can keep scoring 30+ goals. For the salary the habs have Gomez contract coming off the books. |

he could score 20 and still put up 45 points
in 19 games he was paid 900 k or so, and scored (7?) points and thats a slow start and still not far off the average |

He could do that on his game. It's just hard to see him being able to return to that at his age. He's clearly slowed down. |

so 6 players to sign(22 or 23 man roster, it's late maybe 21 can't remember how many spares you can have) and 10 mil to go around, still tight
Still no room for a fancy new UFA signing thats for sure and was my point |

Cole had the best year of his career last year. But this year, he was playing like the Cole from Edmonton. And his comments about retiring at the end of the season probably didn't help him either.
Cole was a good player, but he was now playing on the third line. Bergevin is clearly building this team in his own vision. With 6 pick in the first 3 round, Bergevin has some cards now to either do some trades, signs UFA or even just go with young players. |

The last two years of the contract are going to be tough. We will have to wait and see if he has slowed down or not, theres no way to tell. All I know is he looks nothing like the Cole from before. |

not exactly his best year when looking at Point per game, there are a couple Carolina years that he had better years
he did not get along with anyone in Edmonton |

sadly you do. even if it is a 750k rookie
there is no way to fill out 5-6 roster spots with 10 mill and add a high profile ufa,
simple |

Deep draft this year. Some good players could drop to the second and third round. |

Bingo. I think a good reason why Cole was traded was because of his comments before this season about retiring and his complaints. MB said it didn't matter to him but as Marty said, it's bullpoop. He doesn't want complainers. He was more of a nuisance on most nights this season, yes you can attribute that to his shape, but he didn't have the same drive. |

Well next year I can see Tinordi making the team, and that would probably mean having a guy like Bouillon as 7th D. |

depends what you can get, for it.
seems to be a thing with people who like prospects to want the youngest team ever, but one team with all young players doesn't work on many levels.
it is good to have lots of assets in case some don't pan out, which most won't, but trading a 2nd round pick with say Gionta at the deadline for more proven player then a pick is not a bad thing at all. |

I wonder if Bergevin might trade Markov at the trade deadline? Big contract, 1 year left, high risk for injury. |

Tinordi probably has bonuses in his contract so he is worth more then a mil i would guess.
and resigning Bouliion is atleast another Mil down.
so 5 more players with 7.5 mil or so, remember you don't want to be right up against the cap either.
Oh look at that Getzlaf and Perry each signed for 8 mil a piece, ah too bad |

You said it yourself, the habs are not contenders. That's my mindset about the picks, let's not throw them away. Stack the picks. Let Timmins do his magic.
What I want the most is the Habs to eventually win a cup. In the post-2004/05 lockout, the draft is the bread and butter of cup winners. It's where it starts and ends. |
