In terms of all around play. Scoring goals can't make a player good defensively.
- MJL

Two years ago I would have said Pavel Datsyuk....now maybe Jonathan Toews.

Crosby is very good on face offs as well as offense, plays PK, he could easily be #1 all around

I just love Datsyuk even if he is slightly past his prime

- Marc D

yeah. the only reason i hesitate with dats is that his age is regretfully getting up there. he is absolutely ridiculous. even so, while i would concede that dats is a more balanced player, it doesnt necessarily equate to being better in my mind

no no i understand. i would never say crosby is say top 5 defensively or anything near that. but, he is at the very least still slightly above average. maybe it is my understanding of the question though, as i think that if you take everything into account, that is similar to the best all around player. the amount he is better offensively than say a defensive stalwart such as kesler is large enough to make him the better overall player in my mind
- stayinthefnnet

Again, that's a different perspective. If you're asking who the best forward is in the NHL. It's Stamkos, Crosby, Malkin. But not when asking who the best all around Forward is.

not even close...I see Heat banners on the cars everywhere, nobody cares about the Dolphins, Marlins or Panthers....I bet most people in Miami dont know who the Panthers are?
- vejim

the Panthers are on the 3rd page of the sports here...pretty sad

Toews as well by MJL's criteria.

Leight: Predicted he'd say that in a secret message half a page ago.

I love Datsyuk but he's not physical at all and his offensive numbers have declined due to his age (although he's producing well so far this year).
- NickTheKid87

Roided alex ovechkin is my pick..... i love how the announcers question where hes game went and they all try to snicker like they dont know its the roids.

I was thinking in certain areas the Panthers would be more popular. Liberty City, O-Town, Little Haiti etc...

He is going to have more turnovers because he'll actually attempt to carry the puck. That's a bit of a factor.
- mayorofangrytown

I know but I don't think he's been doing it all that well this year which concerns me. Like I said I think he can do better, and hopefully he will thus resulting in some more W's for us. Not that he's our achilles heal this year either just his play has been hurting imo.

Well I mean if his defensive play causes 1 goal to be scored and he creates 3 goals then, yes, it can.
- NickTheKid87

yeah this is kind of how i was looking at it too. if we are going purely off of a balanced approach, then it is hard to not like toews there due to datsyuks age

Agreed. But if I'm building a team, I'm taking Crosby everyday of the week and twice on Sundays.

Hypothetically, say the Flyers were interested in a Toews/Kane/Keith/Seabrook package, what would they have to give up?
