Just to be sure, you're saying that the Flyers signed Bryzgalov so they wouldn't have to play well defensively. So they can just ignore their end of the ice, and play an all out open attack system, and just let Bryzgalov make the saves. Just looking for clarification.
- MJL

No I'm not saying don't play defense but philly is at their best when then turn the puck up ice quickly. Their forwards are built for that. They aren't built for complete lockDown defense.

I'm ambivalent about that. I don't think it would hurt, but it also wouldn't likely result in a massive change that suddenly saves the season. When guys don't execute, the coach doesn't matter.
- Jsaquella

You are tied for the final playoff spot with over half the season to go.

Considering the slow start (what was it? 2-6?) which can be chalked up to the wacky start of the season, are things really so bad in the City of Brotherly Love?

But hey, if you want to start playing for Seth Jones, what 'evs.

And cannot carry the currently underperforming Rangers to anything resembling success right now.

exactly my point....good team defense can make a mediocre goalie look good and bad team defense can make a good one look real bad.

Do you think the Flyers can play better defensively then they have? And do you think that if they would, that will make the Goaltender's job easier?

And for the umpteenth year in a row, they CANNOT get out of the zone easily at all. They're driving me nuts!
- bodiva88

part of that is the d and outlet passing/ forward support and another part is the system/coaching. i think lavy's on thin ice...after the carnival

Teams are jumping all over the Flyers rim and reversal plays along the boards. They need to make some adjustments, and also start winning more of those 50/50 puck battles.

I wanted Laviolette replaced early on this year, but I'm leaning towards standing pat with everyone right now. I don't want huge changes made in the context of a 48 game season that have ramifications well into the future.

So, in short, the real victim will be my liver as I watch this Flyers team play so inconsistently.

With the way Voracek has played, you can't leave him unmarked either. He's just as dangerous as a guy like Perry or Ryan.
- NickTheKid87

I agree I love checky but he's a playmaker and a shifty goal scorer not a true sniper. A true sniper would give g more space like with jagr last year. Teams only respected what jagr could Do. Can you imagine how teams would play back if we had perry

another issue - not as common as in the past - but they still reverse the puck behind the net more than necessary, imo, and it gets them into trouble.

Not saying that. But the Flyers need to start playing better. They play well for a game or two, and then drop a stinker in.

The biggest effect of a coaching change, IMO, is a shake-up to send a message. There's not a ton of time to change things radically, so they need to step up their games to get the consistent execution that the style they play needs to be successful.

One issue is that every other team has games in hand. As other teams hit tough stretches, where they have back to backs they're going to lose points, sure. But the Flyers need lot of teams to do that.

I still think they can make the postseason, but they have to start executing better ASAP.

Jagr plays more like Voracek than he does Perry.

I see the same thing.
Give the defenseman another outlet option besides ramming the puck up the wall into a two or three man scrum. Have the center play off the boards towards the middle for a second choice to get the puck out.

Yes, yes, that's been retread here. The fallacies are known as Episodes I, II, & III. Just remove them and their affiliated spin-offs and all is well again.
- Flyskippy

Episode III was good. Could've made that as a stand alone, I think and a little better plot development in that particular one but overall a 4 out 5 stars.

You mean a forward coming back deep for a high percentage short pass on a center ice breakout? Blasphemous? LA rode to the Cup on that breakout.
