Why? What has O’Reilly done to be worth more player wise or the money he wants in a contract?

O'Reilly is an awesome two-way forward. Maybe not worth exactly what they want for him and/or the exact contract he would like, but he's worth more than a couple guys nobody could care less if we lose and a 2nd round pick. |

Agreed, there's a lot of hype and he might deliver on it and he may not but Oreilly at this time demands more than that. Whether he's worth it or not remains to be seen? |

So we need to over spend to get him, just so we can over spend on a contract for him, to upgrade a position we are really deep in to begin with?
Cool!

Can we please throw this theory out? It's just one of many excuses management uses to explain themselves being inept at their job. Humoring them makes fans look stupid(not referring to you). These players need to earn respect from their fanbase at this point, we've all witnessed far too many games when they have mailed it in. Everyone just has to try to imagine being paid millions to play hockey in front of thousands of people. Who would'nt love to do that!?!?!? My job though being extremely rewarding I would have a hard time imagining playing like these guys do? It makes zero sense to me? Really think about that. We all bust our butts(I'm assuming I know)and wake up every day to do whatever it is we do and I'll bet if we didn't show up like these guys do as often as they do we'd be on the unemployment line in a heart beat. That goes for management as well as the players. There is no excuse for these guys to not show up as consistently as they do. Sold out or not. Enough of this BS. They are a bunch of losers until proven otherwise. in professional sports "want" supercedes talent I'd say 80% of the time. These guys don't WANT to win. Not in the sense of the word or definition I'm referring too. They don't know how(coach, management, team should be showing them)or they truly don't want too? - Cptmjl
My point is simply that in the last three seasons under capuano they have made it a habit to come out flat at home. Whether or not its 6,000 or 16,000 , the results have been consistently inconsistent to say the least. They are 9 games under .500 at home since the start of last season and 3 games over .500 on the road.

I think he'll live up to the realistic expectations. Nobody (with a brain) thinks he's going to be an elite #1 center, he should however end up being an extremely versatile 2nd line center than can score and play defense. |

I never said we should offer a thing for him or give him a penny. I just said that Sherman would hang up on Snow if he offered Okposo, Bailey, and a 2nd. Which he would. |

A center would probably go the other way, I think. Nielsen and something...maybe one of the wingers mentioned. I can see Isles fans not being crazy about that deal at all though. |

He would, someone is going to over pay for this guy and I'm NOT saying that was an overpayment though I KNOW Bailey is going to be a player in this league somewhere if not here. Maybe not a power house but a productive decent player(Jethro leave me alone ). |

Some NHL Trade Rumors:
A lot of talks going on in the NHL right now here are some important updates:
The O’Reilly situation has seen some recent developments over the last few days. Sens still the favorite to get him, Habs also still interested. None of these 2 teams is willing to pay the price asked by Colorado at this point. However, there are 2 new players that jumped in the sweeps. Sabres are very interested in O’Reilly and are rumored to be offering Stafford. The Rangers are said to be discussing a BLOCKBUSTER with Colorado centered around Del Zotto and O’Reilly…. Things are expected to HEAT UP!
Sabres are being very active; shopping Stafford and also discussing with Blues in regards to Oshie and berglund. St.Louis is rumored to be highly interested in Myers.
Other than O’Reilly Sens are also said to be interested in Whitney and Weiss. Both these players are expected to move prior to the deadline.
Panthers are also shopping Mueller, who is attracting interest from several teams. Leafs have inquired about Theodore. - kear20
And in other news, the islanders are hot for the waiver wire, scouring it for any trash they can find. One team's trash is another team's treasure...

He's been a fine NHL player here, the problem is that he hasn't been a fine top-10 pick. That's where most people's frustration comes in with him. Had we selected him in the 3rd/4th round we'd all be happy with him as the middle-six forward he is.
I'd be OK with moving Nielsen (+) if we were sure (or very confident) we had a guy that could step into the 3rd line center role in the near future. Maybe Nelson if they believe he can be successful as a center. |
