because I think it's a discredit to anyone who has been through the tough times with this team. I've obviously been a fan for longer than a lot of folks here have been alive. That said, there's no way I would tell ANYONE here who has managed to cheer for this team through the last decade that they aren't a diehard fan even if they cheered for the Rangers from 75-95 and then Isles from 96 to today. If anyting, the definition of diehard fan is exactly what EVERYONE here is!
- keaner17

In my book they weren't die hards to begin with then. No die hard fan switches allegiance 20 years after rooting for one team. That's my point Die hard fans don't do that and that's why they are die hards!! That's not saying they aren't good fans. I could never stop watching the Islanders and root for another team the way I do for the Islanders because when you're a die hard its in your blood. We can just agree to disagree

TONIGHT’S PROJECTED LINES
Moulson – Tavares – Boyes
Bailey – Nielsen – Okposo
Ullstrom – Reasoner – Grabner
Martin – Cizikas – McDonald

MacDonald – Hamonic
Visnovsky – Hickey
Streit – Martinek

Stranger things have happened and a win is always a possibility but this lineup against the Bruins?

In an earlier post I had this game being close. But....

If Boston is on their game tonite. It may get real ugly, by the 2nd period.

Couple things you can depend on. Taxes, death, and the Islanders losing to the Bruins at home . You know what will happen now, everyone can thank me later

I was a Ranger fan before I was an Islander fan. When the Isles were born I rooted for both teams. When the Isle met the Rangers in the PO for the 1st time. I was split emotionally as to who I wanted to win.

During that short series I was drawn to the Isles. (before they won)

The Rangers seemed like bullies to me.

Then they were sore losers. Derek Sanderson had some less then stellar comments about the Isles. Saying they would never win another PO game that season. Strange words from a guy who just got his butt whipped from the team!

From that series on I was Islander thru and thru.

that in itself is not a bad thing, you don't want them to give up too much . I know what he means though I'm sure. Like offering Acoin for O'reilly. You can see Snow making some completely wacky BS proposal to someone because my impression of him is wacky. I've met players from other teams a couple times just being out and about at events or bars and one thing is consistent. Nobody respects Snow, Wang, or this team.

The coach knew Snow...he was the Avs goalie coach...he said he was a smart guy but wasn't in the inner circle among other GMs. I met Snow in the lobby of the Westin in Tampa. He was nice, but got pissed at me when I told him you need to bring in some NHL quality players. His reaction was similiar to the one you saw on Saturday. I wasn't impressed....

The Islanders were staying there, the players were very nice. Got a group of them to sign autographs for my son (JT, Moulson, Streit, Nielson). Also met Thompson who was on tampa Bay...he seemed like a good guy...he was meeting some of them for dinner. He had a cute chick with him...he liked my comment when I told him the Florida weather seems to be agreeing with you....

Sure but if they switched and never switched again..they'd have to be definied as a diehard fan...
In other words, it's not where you start..but where you finished. Even if they left, they could say "I was a diehard fan for 15 years but finally had enough!"

I was also a Rangers fan first...Rod Gilbert & Brad Park were my favorite players I switched when Emile Francis put the whole team on waivers in I think 1973...Saw Gilbert alot at the Islanders playoff games in the late 70's and 80's...nice guy...he said he almost got traded to the Islanders but by Ferguson...

Remember when I was first watching hockey there were 6 teams...so you root for the local team...they had a good team but they could never win the big games. Loved watching Bill Chadwick (The Big Whistle)...he was a great listen. Some of the things he would say were funny. Eddie Westfall was good too...I miss him. I shudder when I hear Butchie...

To answer your question, I would get pissed when the Rangers lost but since 1973 when I became an Islanders fan, I never will root for another team. If the Islanders moved, I probably would root for Chicago...but they will be in Brooklyn and I'll probably buy season tickets again... hopefully they will let the season tickets holders meet with Garth. Trust me I won't be asking him any softball questions, like what Dee asks him....

I liked Park also and Walter Tkaczuk. (called him Ta-Chuck back then)

I had knee surgery in 1972. Same week that my Doctor performed Surgery on Jean Ratelle. I was thrilled that I saw him briefly at Lenox Hill Hospital but pissed that I had just missed him at the Surgeons office. Dr James Nickolas. He was also the Jets team Surgeon at that time. Did meet one of the Jets linemen but I cant remember which one.
