could be a late bloomer, Chris Pronger. Better to get a guy when his values low.
- gunner2233

We can't afford to take that chance. Not in a salary cap world when we have Yak, RNH, Hall and Eberle.

And it's not like he'll be cheap via trade.

Petry I'd like to keep. He is kinda the only guy that is an all-around d-man. I do however wonder what happens with N.Schultz and Smid. Have to think Smid sticks around, but N.Schultz could very well be a guy that is upgraded on.

Peckham was upgraded, his name is Mark Fistric.

Whitney could be upgraded with this

We need Horcoff back !!!
- Reveen

Sounds like he could be back soon. I will say this, VV with some nice hits as of late is quite nice. 50% on draws too, so that doesn't hurt.

But ya Horcoff would be better.

I like Fistric. I think the Oilers are in good shape, id try to bolster there puck movers next draft. 3 pairs of puck movers should be the model, always getting the puck on the sticks of the forwards with ease, detroit, chicago style.

Having a bottom six of

Smyth/Horcoff/Jones
Eager/Belanger/Hartikainen

would be a huge improvement and we might actually win a few games

Maybe someone else posted this but I'm gonna say it anyway. Richard you should be calling out Petry on the winning goal. That was stuff Petry should have known since novice hockey. As the play went to the from of the net when Sharp was dangling and taking 2 shots Petry proceeds to skate behind the net and leaving Hossa in front to take not one but two shots to finally put it in. The play isn't behind the net, but in front. That was trash.

I think there is a good chance that Myers play is congruent with the way the entire Sabres have been this year... He is a big physical dman with offensive potential... but ya he will cost... but does not hurt to kick tires... I also would not mind Regehr... just for locker room talk... put his locker by Hemsky's

Something will have to give, because it is a weakness.

Like I've said in the past though, we will more than likely have to make two deals. One moving a forward for a d and one move a d for a forward. Really going to depend who can get you the best return.

Petry being cheap next year(1.7mil) could be quite attractive to a team like say the Flyers who are known to move bigger salaries for smaller salaries at times.

Can you somehow move Petry out and end up with Simmonds. And in another deal get an upgrade on Petry?

Horcoff was a hard worker, on the puck quick, screen on PP. He has a few things going for him.

True but collectively the team played poor enough to lose... the turnovers were horrendous... we did get a few quality chances- Jonesy had a great chance but missed the net, yaks hit the post or outter lower post there late in the 3rd, gags fuct up the 2 on 1... we had chances to win... but we also got a few luck bounces where it either missed the net or khabby somehow pulled it out of his ass... when you go for stretches without simple shots on net you have no chance of scoring... too much pretty poop... and what we have been doing this for 17 games or so now...

He's regressed every years since his first though. Sure you have to call, but it's a deal that can kill a GM. One who already is dead to most fans.

Buffalo as you say is a good target. Regehr/Leopold are good stop gaps that could either help us with riding ourselves of Whitney or Potter(contract next year).

I've always had a hard spot for Sekera. Mike Weber could be another target, but he isn't much of an upgrade to the team other than physical

Injuries were a problem. I alluded to it in the off-season, if his back was going to be an issue again there was a good chance we would've bought him out at season end.

Indeed. An Eager type or two in the top 6 and a defensive upgrade or two and we look a lot better. Is it possible to somehow end up with both Clowe and Simmonds in the off season? Wishful thinking but a nice thought.

Of course since we're going to win the Cup it should be easy to attract free agents.

You should go back the past few years and compare the Oilers record with Horcoff in the line up with the Oilers record when Horcoff is out of the line up. You might miss him more.

Ive missed him since he went out. Unlike the idiots who would strip him of the C and hand it to a 20 year old and then ship him out for a 3rd, some of us understand his importance to the lineup.

I'm actually wondering about Simmonds now. They are going to be tight against the cap.

Looking at PHI, I still don't know how Grossman gets that deal with a Jay Feaster special as well.

Also worth mentioning there was a rumor floating around that Whitney could end up on waivers. Not sure how accurate it was as a. it came from another poster on another site and b. his source was Doug maclean.
