I couldn't disagree more. Girgorenko has not been put into a position to succeed. Give him some time on the PP. Let him play with Vanek. Put him on a wing for now. Let Pomminville play with Hecht and ott. That would be a good line for us. Pomminville and Hecht have had some success together. - Pillar
Homer has said (and I trust his source) that they absolutely don't want him to play wing. I really don't understand why, but even so, there are ways to make it work, without demoting your best players. The Sabres just simply refuse to use them either due to arrogance, stubbornness or both.

They've played their asses off and what's the result? 15th place in the conference. I'm sick of hearing about how hard people try or don't try. It should always be about results. Winning is all that matters. That's part of the entire problem. People in this town are enamored by effort moreso than they are with winning, especially the people that make decisions. That's exactly why we have zero championships. It's a loser mentality.
And they don't need to demote any center to put Grigorenko with guys of his skillset. They could put him on the wing, or move Ennis to a wing. This team is allowed to be creative. Putting a guy like Grigorenko with two grinders with limited offensive ability is setting the guy up for failure. The tunnel vision when it comes to things like this is mindboggling. What's are they scared of? Losing games?
I'm not enamored with Grigorenko. He should have been sent back down to juniors. However, he wasn't. He's stuck here. So, you need to use in him in a way that best helps your team. I refuse to believe that's between two guys with cinder blocks as skates. It was the same problem with Afinogenov. Anyone with an IQ of 16 could see that putting him with 2 guys (Ellis and Mair) that could barely skate made both himself and his linemates a liability. It's a complete misuse of resources. - buffalofan19
If the kid's a center, he needs to play center.
Moving Ennis to wing is fine, though. That's where he started, anyway.
What I'm saying with Grigo is this: Show me something. I don't care who he plays with. If he is playing with Kaleta and McCormick, Ott, Scott or even Vanek, he has got to show that he wants the ice time, that he belongs, and that he wants to be the best player on the ice. If it's 6 minutes a game, then it better be the best damn 6 minutes he's played in this league yet. And then next game he gets 10. He's more confident, his coaches are more confident in him, and off we go.
And Afinogenov was his own worst enemy. How would you like to play with the only guy in the league that could put himself offsides? Was never a fan, sorry.

I don't see how Hecht and sucess are put in the same sentence. The only thing we should hear about Hecht is reduced ice time.

Young centers are often (and successfully) eased into the NHL at wing all the time. Hell, Ennis played wing for far too long before they finally figured out he was better served up the middle.

Stamkos, Giroux, Malkin, Gagne, Seguin all have played wing early in their career

I wasn't either. However, he was stuck on the roster. My point is you can't sit there and put him in a position that hurts multiple teammates because you don't like him, and justify it for that reason. That's just begging for failure. Putting him on the 4th line didn't make only him a liability, but it also made his linemates a liability as well. Again, that's simply poor asset management.

Larry Brooks proposes a Brad Richards buy out? Already? I would have said maybe next year. - mes418
I was one of the few on here that didn't want him...
(mostly bc of the contract we'd have to give)
And I don't want him now either, bc if he does get bought out, whatever team gets him will still have to overpay
If I'm gonna overpay a free agent, I'll go after a 27yr old Perry, not a 30-something guy that's winding down

It's been awhile since his last incident. Last I remember he had one well documented drunken night in some college town over the summer, and while he might have been an ass it was far from anything as outrageous as any young (rich )drunk man might do on any given night.

Should have sent him back to juniors if this was how they were going to use him IMO. Press box and having John Scott as a linemate does zilch for the kid.
