Knuble is a veteran and is a big body in front of the net, I'm fine with that but Gus? Kimmo and Coburn or hell even Schenn to get back at his own team I could understand.
- coffee junkie

knuble is 2 years past done. its bull crap he is on the ice at that point in the game.
simmonds is a big body too. and harnell.

yep. i said on twitter early in the game, this is one where they really need read. versatile. works hard every night. keeps it simple but has skill.

the defense and bottom 2 lines are allowed to contribute offensively.

- hammarby31

Fedetenko, Knuble, and Talbot are basically black holes offensively. Briere and Couturier really struggling as well. Very frustrating team to watch.

That's the reality of it. Anyone can scapegoat any player they want to. But this is a team issue. Until the shore up the little things that make the biggest difference. This team, despite the talent it has, will be an average team. It starts with team defense, puck management, penalties. They didn't raise their game and show a real sense of urgency until late in the game. They come out in the 3rd, breakdowns in their own zone. And that leads to penalty, and down 2 goals.
- MJL

I know we may disagree on the system/approach we prefer.

I think we would agree that one of the biggest issues is the simple lack of urgency, effort and continously coming out with no emotion.

They lead the league in penalties, and are nowhere near one of the more intimidating physical teams.

Being a loser isn't in my blood, I can't wish this teams loses for a higher draft choice. Maybe it is what the franchise needs but I won't be rooting for it.

There's an awful lot of slow-to-react guys on this team right now. And just plain slow.

Knuble's got the heart of a lion, but I'd almost rather see him as an assistant coach than out on the ice.

And the D is killing us. This could have easily have been 6 - 2.

Granted Couturier has been horrible so far this year... they need to get him players to play with. Running any of those 5 scrubs (talbot, rinaldo, fedotenko, knuble, mcginn) with him is a waste.

They need to get some legitimate wingers on the ice with him and let those 5 battle for the 4th line positions.

Oh and... they need a new 3rd pairing D.

The top 6 forwards, top 4 d-men and goalie I am perfectly fine with. They need depth.

I agree with a lot of that. Except the physical part. The Flyers are a very physical team. I don't see that as an issue.

And where we disagree system wise, is that I know you can be an aggressive team and also play well in all 3 zones. It's not one or the other.

The thing is I never really expected much out of Fedetenko or Talbot offensively this season.

They have however been pretty damn sub-par defensively or giving the team some emotion to build from. Talbot is running around like an idiot.

You need every player to contribute to be a top NHL team. If someone told you before the year started that Rinaldo would be doing more to help this team win than say a guy like Briere would you have believed them?

getting nothing from bottom lines or defense in scoring. they lose a lot of face offs, a lot of puck battles, can't clear, and have a lot of breakdowns in their own end. just moving up ice is a chore. i honestly don't expect them to, nor will i think they make the playoffs.

See I am starting to believe this is another issue.

They are bad defensively and have collapses, but its starting to look like something else to me. They continously seem to have no energy, come out flat and with no emotion.

It's not a solid game and little break-downs here and there. They gave the Leafs very little in the first two periods in terms of scoring chances, yet in the bigger picture they were brutal. No urgency, no skating, nothing.

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Simmonds-Schenn-Briere
_______-Couturier-_______

Timonen-Schenn
Grossman-Coburn
________-________

These are major weaknesses on this team that need to be addressed. For now and the future.

Getting a healthy Read and Meszaros back would help.

I hear you, but they're 7 points up from being tied for the worst in the league, and 2 points out from being the 25th worst in the league.

The way they are playing, I'm really not in the mood to watch them limp into the playoffs to get smoked in the first/second round again. I've seen it too many times over the past 16 years.

Talbot has been bad ... but I have hopes that he can contribute this year, and raise his overall play.

Unfortunately, we may be seeing the best that Knuble and Feds have to offer.

So it's going to take a half a (frank)ing season or more, to get to .500. Can't be serious.
- PLindbergh31

This team doesn't appear to have what it takes to get to .500. I'm not convinced they'll ever get there this year. I would be very tempted to just sit or trade Knuble and Fedotenko and let the kids learn as much as they can this short season. We're not going anywhere this year, might as well get some experience for the kids.
