Because you guys have the goods hanging in your rafters. Us Hawks fans respect Edmonton because as much as it sucked, you guys possibly prevented some good Hawks teams from making a Cup finals run in the 1980s....
Basically, your franchise has the rings and that my friend is to be respected.
I know a rebuild is tough, but your guys have some great young players. Don't forget players like Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook started their careers on some pretty crummy teams. You guys will get there...just be patient and if you get cold, wrap up in one of those Stanley Cup banners. - kwolf68
way too early bro.
no question the best team in the league at the moment, but there's ebs and flows and some really good teams out there.
to count out boston, pittsburgh, vancouver, st.louis among a few others would be foolhardy. no one should be surprised if any of these teams win it all - hugefemale dog77
VAN seems to struggle in the playoffs and St. Louis for some reason is having shaky-shaky goaltending.
Boston is great everywhere, don't see how they didn't win it last year. I could see a BOS-CHI final.
Pittsburgh was awful last year in the playoffs and I'm not sure Vokoun'll solve that.
If the oilers ever turn out, I'll be going in to other teams blogs telling them they suck 24/7.
Too bad EDM doesn't have any Keiths or Seabrooks. And as much as I'd love a guy like Seabrook (just think he'd be a great fit) that's physical with a booming shot, Keith's so great all over the ice. His ability to beat forwards in his own end with just his skating is incredible. If Crawford can pull up his socks, this team'll win the cup this year (and maybe the next...and the next). I went to game 1 and 2 of the CHI-PHO series last year and the stories of the series were Mike Smith and Corey Crawford. CHI dominated the tempo of the game both games, but Smith put his team on his shoulders and Crawford looked a little shaky. - TheNugeIsHuge
No need to be speechless. Rings are rings dude. Tomorrow night you guys are public enemy #1, but the Oilers have been a great and a class organization for a long time. And they are on the right path.
No need to hide from the legacy of your franchise. You just need to follow up on it now.
In the meantime, we'll take a Cup or two before you guys figure it out.
And you are dead right about the Yotes series...Crow was horrid and Smith was brilliant. Crow isn't that bad and Smith isn't that good, we just ran into the wrong team at the wrong time.
If we get the tending, stay healthy and don't run into some team having a great run of momentum and luck, the Hawks have a great chance this year, but we still have lots of hockey to play first.

some classy mofos up in this.
we're clearly the inferior team at present, but its nice to hear some reasonable thoughts. instead of nuck fan nonsense. "u guys are terrible,,hahah rebuild'll never work, derp"

Maybe not but Smid seems like a pretty useful guy; don't know how he's playing this year as I admit I haven't seen a lot of Oiler games. You guys have some nice pieces to build on and some to maybe trade for others. Was thinking along with others this would be the year EDM put it together.

just shocked at how humble you guys are. You make canucks fans look like dirt.
Yea, no guarantees but CHI'll be a strong strong contender

God, let's hope so. The core of this team is too good to be a one and done like the '85 Bears; which shouldn't have been a one and done.

i think some of vans' struggles may be abit oversimplified.
they lost to the eventual champs last year who went on a virtually unbeatable run. and imo, were the only team that really gave them a run and coulda won that series.
year before game 7 of the finals. year before lost to the eventual champs and gave em a run. theyre not gonna be easy to get by.
totally agree with boston. they're my pick as of today. and im also big believer in st.loo and halak.
no disrespect to chicago, theyre on fire and of course will be one of the teams to go through in the playoffs, but as of the start of the season my final remains st.loo and boston

I've been happy with Smid, Petry, and J. Schultz but none are near the level of Keith or Seabrook.
I'm always caught too optimistic, but until they stay consistent I'm not gonna keep my hopes up. Need some grit and some two-way guys. Most forwards are sloppy in their end.
we don't make them look like dirt....they are dirt - bogiedoc

No hardware, oh wait I'm sorry I forgot about the President's Trophies and various individual trophies they've accumulated,
and they come on here chirping like they're the 70's version or any decade before then, Habs.

While it's nice to be rid of the Nucktards, it's getting a bit too civil in here....

Halak and Elliott were amazing last year and to start the season they were my pick to win stanley but Elliott came back to earth and has been bad bad bad.
As for VAN. Just seems like the teams that have won the cup recently have been big gritty teams. LA with their huge roster including players like Brown, Greene, Clifford. BOS with guys like Chara, Lucic, Marchand. CHI with guys like Byfuglien, Seabrook.
God, let's hope so. The core of this team is too good to be a one and done like the '85 Bears; which shouldn't have been a one and done.

Extenuating caused the 80s Bears to fall short. Factors include losing Wilbur Marshall, the strike of 87, McMahon creating lockerroom tension when Flutie was brought in, Darrell Green.
I'm honestly speechless. I'll be back every game day blog now to listen to all of your reasonable comments. I don't even know what to say. You haven't made a negative remark about EDM. Such a change of pace. - TheNugeIsHuge
