What type of player is he JJ? What would the Oilers want for him? We need to look at possible replacements for Bolland down the road for $$ reasons - Greek7
LW/C, but more of a winger. Strictly a 3rd/4th line guy. Strong as an ox, very effective down low. Also has the potential to be a force in front of the net. |

Here's what Carcillo does on the top lineāhe makes it very tough for opposing defensemen to clear the zone when the puck is along the boards down low. And that in turn creates opportunities for the Hawks to establish possession and a cycle, especially playing with Hossa and Toews. You saw some of it in the San Jose game when he took a couple of shifts with them. And he's smart enough to be able to integrate with them on the cycle or at least get out of the way. Brouwer did the same thing with 88 and 19. They are NOT ideal players for that kind of line over 200 feet of ice (well, Brouwer moreso), but when you are looking to create/maintain offense, especially against big, strong defensemen, they are slightly more than just "guys." - John Jaeckel
Another thing Carcillo does, he goes to the net. |

Do a search for Kevin Hayes suspended...you'll find some details.

The question for next year: who are they going to keep.
Kruger (RFA): staying; 1.5 - 2 mil per 2-3 yr?
Leddy (RFA): staying; 2-2.5 mil per for 3 yrs?
Stahl (UFA): will get offers; 2-2.5 per for 3 yrs?
Mayers (UFA): gone
Emery (UFA): he may get offers; 2-2.5 mil
Bicks (UFA): may get offers double or triple his salary to 1.25 - 1.5 for 2 or 3 yrs.
Rosival (UFA): like him alot but can they keep him @ 2 mil plus again?
$4 mil of cap space next year. Do the math? Maybe only 2 or 3 of these guys coming back. Without a buyout of Olez or Montador or both, Stanbow does not have $$$ to acquire a top six forward and keep most of his UFA and RFA's.
Enjoy the depth of this year and results cuz once again it looks to be gone next year! - bogiedoc

Pretty much all the forwards are skating towards the net and trying to get in front of it or at a minimum crashing it for rebounds. Basically how Shaw has scored most of his points. Big part of their success as a team.
Same thing on the other end in terms of everyone playing defense. Everybody playing a nice simple game. Staying within their given roles and it is pretty awesome to see. |

Anxious to see tonight's matchup. Hawks playing their third in four days, no holland. Oil has been having serious issues scoring goals, and have no Taylor Hall who has seemed to kill the Hawks pretty consistently. I wonder what the Hawks have in the tank. I was at the UC last night and a lot like the first matchup with CBJ, the hawks were challenged physically for sixty minutes. Atmosphere should be good in the building lets see if the team comes out flying. |

the 'good' thing with Leddy is that the Del Zotto and PK Subban contracts should provide a good benchmark. Both signed deals for 2.4/2.5 for 2-years. That should help from a planning point of view. They win the cup and all bets are off, however. I'd like to have that problem

Saad has 30 games to learn and advance his game. I think the amount of situations Q is putting him in has as much to do with seeing what he can do and gaining him experience as it does actual full-on confidence.
He is mistake prone in some situations and a little behind the play sometimes mentally. If he closes the gap over the next 30, he wiil play a lot in the playoffs. If not, his TOI will be limited. - John Jaeckel
Nobody's suggesting it yet...but i cannot see Saad being sent down anytime soon. You really play with a kid's confidence by doing that and as long as he keeps learning, HUSTLING and playing well on whatever line he's on...he should stick for the rest of the year.

Who said send him down? I think it's a question of role/ice time come playoffs. I will say anyone assuming he will be 1LW in the playoffs at this point might be mistaken. |

JJ,
What names do you see the Hawks targeting in the near future with Stalberg, maybe a Dman available as well as prospects and picks to the highest bidder? |

In my post..i said 'nobody's suggesting it yet'....and i hope he isn't. Just hate to see a kid's confidence phucked with, should his play fall off and/or wel lose a few. Will say, that he is extremely tentative on the rush when he's flanked by 19 ande 81. When he's alone, he does his thing, drives outside and makes things happen. |

Just playing around with these numbers on Capgeek 'Cap Calculator'. It'll be tight to keep the bulk of this roster in tact without someone going (Frolik/Bolland)

Considering the last several years, this matchup should be...interesting.
Oil not scoring much...Hawks not scoring much of late.
Oil somewhat rested...Hawks may be tired.
If Hawks D remains stout, along with net-minding, I expect another low scoring nail biter. If Hawks are exhausted, the Oil's young legs may be the difference. |

If it comes down to it I would let Stalberg walk before losing Frolik or Bolland. |

Very true Philco, the issue is this. Hossa, Toews and Saad are puck possession players. The reason this line is lacking in productiveness is this reason alone. The puck can not be broken into three pieces in a game. Move Saad to the third line and put Stalberg with 19-81 to try and get him more production on a consistent basis. Saad will grow as a player more with Shaw and Bickell where he can handle the puck all he wants.
Yes, Saad lovers, they are 15-0-3, but they as of late are not firing on all cylinders. They are winning with a different hero every night. That is not a bad thing, but in these close games they are an unfortunate bounce away from a loss. So if changing things up provides a fresh new energy, we can see this streak continue. |

I know there are longer term effects of that move, like getting Danault. But like we discuss on here a lot, prospects are just that. I hope the kid is a world beater, but you won't know for some time. Unless they strapped a cheetah to Brunette's back, you knew that experiment wouldn't work. Nice guy, but slowwwwwwwww - eburgio
