All in good fun We are having way to much fun with these pictures. Well if watching the team does not entertain us we must find other ways to entertain ourselves.

Bobby Clarke/Garth Snow? Maybe not the best analogy? I liked the Neil Smith signing. he had a resume, he won a cup, and he had a reason to succeed. All elements for success. Good for you being non judgemental with the Snow signing, you were the ONLY person on the planet. I thought it was an insane move just like every other person(besides you again, sorry)but you know what? I gave Snow the benefit of the doubt with his "rebuild". Still waiting for some results? Something? and waiting... This team took enough chances with people with no experience, how'd that work out? It was nice to know no matter how brief that we had a notable, respected person running the show(Smith). People took notice when Smith was hired. The he was fired and Snow was hired and people took notice again but for the wrong reasons. Kudos to you though for not judging him.

Both were players who became GM's immediately following their careers. If you're to insinuate that Clarke's being a far more successful player makes him a better candidate, there are a lot of GM's who never skated on NHL ice. My point was that there was no reason to not believe that a player could understand how to build a team in this league. A goaltender tends to see and break down the game better than any other position on ice. So at the time, I saw it as a 'could work' type of thing but I was by no means a supporter of it. I saw/see Neil Smith as a guy that operated with a New York Yankee's type salary advantage and yet had declining success. Having Messier drop into your lap is an awfully nice thing.

The waiting is definitely the worst part. If I were Snow I would have never referred to this as a 5 year plan, though the fanbase wouldn't have accepted a less optimistic call. We're doing this rebuild without the advantage of UFA's (for another year or so), and with limited resources (active players) for trades, so it can only be judged based on the depth of our prospect pool. This is why I say Garth gets a 'C-'. I think that's a fair score overall based on decent picks like Hamonic, Martin, Strome, Cizikas, Reinhart etc. A kid like Kabanov could be a huge risk/reward pick based on his skillset. Mayfield is a big nasty kid who MAY develop into a top 4 dman. Sure there's a lot or "'maybe's" in prospects but that's all we've got and I doubt it would have been different with Smith as GM either based on the financial constraints. Given the state of this farm system at the time Snow first came in, you have to respect the fact that most of the 'improvements' made to this organization are just now getting old enough to play in the league. Our prospect pool is one of the most highly rated in the NHL. That's the only thing we can measure so far.

jim i see it. I just don't think it's anywhere near as bright as you do. I'm not a fool I've been watching and playing(albeit not very good )hockey all my life. It's the only sport i watch. This franchise can draft all it wants but when you develop prospects in this environment don't expect good results. I also don't think these rpospects are that wonderful, in fact i think they are completely over blown on here which is normal for fans to do. Anders Lee, come on guys give me a break. Kabanov? Don't hold your breath. Look at Ullstrom, will he pan out? Maybe? I hope so but these kids are far from blue chip prospects. As far as blue chip goes we have one, Strome. That's it. Guess what? Blue chip is not 100% either. I'm not telling you anything you don't know. I know we have more prospects but do you think this is good for 5 years of drafting in the top five and not trading anything in that time period? I don't. This "rebuild" is a sham. I like prospects like the next guy but you need the real thing to compliment and "train" those prospects. We don't have any of the above.

Yeah, the problem- and this goes to BOTH of them, because it doesn't matter WHAT he says to US, but in private, you'd think he could explain a couple of things to his boss, is that the older some of these guys get, the less value they have. Last trade deadline, or this past off-season would have been the one to move Bailey/Okposo, billing them as "up and coming" prospects, to fill holes in the lineup. It's good to build a CORE through the draft; it's the ONLY way to build a team, IMO....but you also have to trade SOME of what you draft for assets that fill obvious needs. The problem is that SOMEONE has to explain that to his boss- yes, we can do this cheaply as possible, but if you ever want to improve the brand, the team has to get to be GOOD at some point, and this is the only way to do that. At a certain point, you have to turn Billy Harris into Butch Goring, or else you'll never get anywhere.

I don't know why you guys find anything wrong with boyes. Guy has produced on 2 different lines this year and has several game winner goals. He is least of our worries

Also Neil smith has not had a gm job since isles. Are the other 29 teams dumb too? Not to mention okposo was Neil smiths pick.

Claude giroux was selected in same draft. Not to mention bunch of other players that while not superstars are all better than Kyle today
