You think he is several years from being ready chief? Either way the odds do not look good with him signing with the Isles.
- ses111

He's physically elite and a real good finisher but his skating is notably bad. Bad skating rarely thrives in this league. I see him as a more skilled, slightly less physical Matt Martin.

If Cptjl can't see how much better this team is compared to 5 years ago... then he is not looking @ the big picture.

This team had no prospects or depth 5 years ago.

When you blow up a team and start fresh... it should be expected it's going to take time.

Plus... it's not like he had the payroll to throw money around @ FA.

This team played in the crappiest arena in sports.

Nobody knew where they would be playing or living after 2015.

Wang is running this team on a shoe string budget.

He has to pick up Thomas, just so he doesn't fall under the cap if he makes some trades @ the deadline.

Our cap space is made up of Yashin's buyout... Thomas fake cap dollars... Vis 5 million contract that Wang only pays out 3 million, etc...

We barely spend to the cap floor.

Until Wang sells this team the Isles will not spend the money they need to.

Can you imagine if Snow had even an extra 10 million to spend?

Snow will never come out and call Wang a cheap ass... why would he?

He has 1 of the 30 great jobs in the NHL.

Who wouldn't want to be an NHL GM?

Do I love Snow... no!!! Can he do a better job? sure!!! Does he get the same tools to use as other GM's...No!!!

jim i see it. I just don't think it's anywhere near as bright as you do. I'm not a fool I've been watching and playing(albeit not very good )hockey all my life. It's the only sport i watch. This franchise can draft all it wants but when you develop prospects in this environment don't expect good results. I also don't think these rpospects are that wonderful, in fact i think they are completely over blown on here which is normal for fans to do. Anders Lee, come on guys give me a break. Kabanov? Don't hold your breath. Look at Ullstrom, will he pan out? Maybe? I hope so but these kids are far from blue chip prospects. As far as blue chip goes we have one, Strome. That's it. Guess what? Blue chip is not 100% either. I'm not telling you anything you don't know. I know we have more prospects but do you think this is good for 5 years of drafting in the top five and not trading anything in that time period? I don't. This "rebuild" is a sham. I like prospects like the next guy but you need the real thing to compliment and "train" those prospects. We don't have any of the above.

The isles fired trottier a few years ago as the player development director. If you're going to build through the draft, which most of us agree was the right way to go 6 years ago, then you need to have smart people in place to help these kids grow. Not like trottier wasn't one of the best two way players of all time who had 5 cups.

It's moves like that which have pissed me off more than anything else they have or haven't done. Same with capuano. Seems like a great guy who cares about the franchise but he isn't the best option. Look at Montreal with therrian

7 cups. 6 as a player, one as an assistant coach in Colorado

But who's counting?

Look no further than the Isles last GM. You forget when the islanders had to sit coach or if they broke a stick they had to pay for it. You had some good point and your abused fan symptom comment was probably the funniest today! lol. I don't have this woe is me attitude for garth, I wasn't happy when he was first given the job. Who in their right mind would be? Where you? I doubt it. After he took control i gave him the benefit of the doubt and brought into his "rebuild". You know the "rebuild" that has shown nothing, yeah. That's where you and I differ in opinion. I feel i can form one, you feel you can't. Let me ask you something. You say you can't fault Snow for much, right? It's not his fault this or that happened because you speculate that Wang has the reigns. OK. So why do you give him credit for Moulson, PA, etc? Does Wang only get credit for negative shat that happens or maybe Wang actually signed those players? How does that work in your world? I have a hard time understanding this concept. Snow seems to get credit for these signings but when anything negative pops along you can always blame Wang? Serious question?
- Cptmjl

First bolded point: I carried very little opinion at the time other than surprise, like most. I definitely didn't take the attitude that no one should be a GM without front office experience. Living in the Philly area I watched Bobby Clarke retire in 1984 and take the Philadelphia Flyers to the Stanley cup 2 of the next three years as their GM. Long before Garth was named to the job and I thought he was a witty guy and new he had a decent educational background. On the yahoo messageboards I made the arguement that as an NHL goaltender, Snow could likely scout present NHL talent as well as anyone else, provided he had a natural eye for it. So other than the media perception and reaction, I had very little. I know I DIDN'T like the Neil Smith hiring prior.

As for Wang receiving credit, that point should be obvious. Wang is merely the holder of purse strings. Therefore I can only give him credit for allowing Garth to spend the money but blame Wang for not allowing Garth to spend ENOUGH money. I seriously doubt Wang had anything to do with finding Grabner or Moulson. The only credit he gets is for ponying up the dough to sign them, which is mandatory by the cap floor. So in the end, I have to credit Snow for finding bargain bin deals since he's operating on a bargain bin budget.

This message doesn't speak to the jaded fan base anymore, and certainly doesn't light a fire under the players, so it really serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever.
