And you plan to have him QB the powerplay next year too? I'm not really sure Hamonic is cut out for that detail and Hickey is still a couple of years away from that. Viz is as good as gone so Streit is all you have for that detail unless you're anticipating a major signing this offseason.

i dont think there is anything major to be signed...itll have to be thru trade.

Correct...then the question becomes...what does it take via trade to get a legit powerplay qb defenseman capable of playing top 4 minutes? That's why resigning Streit (and I've been one of his biggest critics) might be a must.

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. It's the same situation..yet another interview...yet you're expecting a different result.

I'm intrigued as to just how you would want him to reply to those questions knowing the teams present predicament. I know I'm in total agreement with everyone that what we have is NOT enough and we need more fast, but I don't think he said anything different than what 99% of the other GM's in the league would have said had they been facing the same scenario.

- keaner17

GMs comment on their teams' needs all the time...what they'd like, a type of player they're looking for, etc. To hear Snow tell it, he's not looking for anything ever, everything's in place, and he'll only look to make a change if "something comes along," whatever the heck that even means.

I generally agree. That said, Garth is not going to come out and say "We desperately need to make a trade". While that may be satisfying to us as diehard fans, it does nothing for the team in finding value for anyone they really do wish to deal.

You're all smart enough to know those types of interviews are fluff interviews. They're never going to provide you with anything more newsworthy than the teams own rah-rah website. So to come out of those interviews disappointed is silly. We need a coach..FAST. This is the one place that Garth is REALLY frustrating me because it effects the players already playing here.

No they're not...

I would really hope with all the prospects we can do better than Streit at this point. If we cannot make a trade for someone better than Streit I'm not even saying a star player we are in huge trouble.

I thought this was the offseason Snow would make some impact moves? Sorry my mistake. I'll take my chances without Paul Coffey I mean Streit running the PP.

Agreed...but I think there's an even deeper issue. Our system (which we use in the 'A' as well) is not a good one and may be damaging our prospects. Cappy is part of the problem but it was apparent with Gordon as well that the team had constant mental lapses, missed assignemtns, breakdowns under pressure etc. I'm afraid the team needs a total different philosophy in just what type of system we're using. That goes beyond Cappy, though he should be the first to go.
- keaner17

You are right this system taht they are putting into play sucks. Hell it does not even work in the AHL. I dont know if anyone in this organization knows what is going on anymore

It's a cookie cutter answer that I've heard from GM's in EVERY sport. "if there's an opportunity to upgrade our roster and make the team better, we'll do it, but not at the expense of our young guys or prospects,"

What does that statement say? NOTHING. It's practically cliche for a GM. If you came into an intermission interview from Snow expecting that he was going to make big comments regarding the need for additions to the team I'm not sure what to tell you. 99% of the GM's say exactly what he said.

It just seems so defensively irresponsible. Some of it has to be attributed to the players, but the problems been constant ever since the system was put in place

I disagree most GM will say that they are doing everything possible to make the team better. No one says the young prospects are off the table. Garth fooled us all over the summer when he said he now has the prospects and picks to make a trade to upgrade the team. He was teh one that opened his mouth and so far he has failed and lied

I don't like the idea of dealing the NHL's fastest skater who happens to be one of the few players on this team who constantly brings it. I'm afraid that would be a step back since you're essentially losing Steit and Grabs to slightly upgrade Streit.

That's a big difference from coming out and saying "we're going to make a trade". My point is that Garth said nothing one way or the other. All he said is, we'll review any trade offers....it was a non informational answer.

im just looking down the system and see there are a lot more forwards in the system who are going to step up soon...the way i see it, grabner on the 2nd/3rd line isnt as important as a top 4 dman.

i thnk grabner is VERY valuable which is why id expect a TOP dman in return.

I liked Cappy's postgame interview though. Like he said the coaches have given them what they need. We do need a more outspoken captain, I know we all want the C on JT but right now they need a guy like Kanopka blasting the team. Cappy is basically saying someone in there get everyone on the same page, he knows he can't get them there...this is when you need a real leader...still wish we were in contention for a real run cause I'd love to have Iginla here (I know a dream). Just there comes a time that the guys need to step up here...not just MM JT or Nabby. That said he does need to sit KO a few games and send him a message....cause the GM isn't changing a thing ''unless it is something that makes the team better'' lol. In other words unless a team will take KO and give him the world there will be no changes....Cappy needs to at least bring Ulltstrom back in and sit KO....

I'd keep Grab and look two years from now when guys like Reinhart, Mayfield, Donovan etc will be joining or at least competing for a spot. I'd love to add a top 4 dman but I don't think dealing a guy like Grabner is the answer.

Agreed. The question is who did he say that for? I don't know if it was for the fans as much as for other GM's. Like putting the sign in the window. Much like his non answer the other night. it's all typical GM spew...pointless to even listen to from a fan pespective. That's my point, he's not going to throw any meaningful or even truthful/blunt comments out in an interview like that. Most GM's wouldn't.

I'm not defending Garth from a performance point of view. I'm just saying, expecting juicy info from a broadcast interview is setting yourself up to get even more pi$$ed because GM's rarely feed the frenzy.

**one more thing, that quoted comment is just as much fodder to tell fans 'we're making progress' but still offers nothing.

maybe i just feel that in 2 years from now...windows will be closed by than; they need to be legit contenders in 2 years from now.

Oh great we have to wait maybe two more years for these guys to hopefully be impact guys? I cannot watch the same D for another two years. We need to make real moves this offseason not two years from now.

I don't think our window has hardly began to open yet. I think this team has been built and projected to begin competing in 2015. Sucks for all of us, but that's the only time I anticpate seeing efforts to vastly improve the big club rather than the farm system.

I wonder what JT would say to having to wait another two years? The Isles need to start showing signs now and they better be very active this offseason.

THAT...is my biggest worry. Though for the same reason that I don't think Charles will sell, I think JT will stick it out. Conditions will finally begin to improve at that time, so leaving after suffering the worst might feel like the previous years were all in vain

I hope JT is on board with this. He's already shown signs of fustration with the losing this year I'd hate to see him with having to suffer losing for two more years.
