the thing is darcy is in no position for trades right now. he should have done it preseason so he could get way more back then the actual worth of a player. instead he held on to guys (im sure thinking he could squeeze more out of the trades later in season). now we are in the bottom of the barrel and with the coach fired other teams now he is in a position of desperation and weakness. who really thinks he will trade with other teams lowballing him?

don't get me wrong change is in order but i'm not expecting too much right now. perhaps he has some favors to call in with other gms??

- badgirrl

You couldn't be more wrong IMO... Teams at the tradedeadline overpay big time to get a guy! No way we get a 1st for goose last year if we traded him before the season started.

Right now if the sabres continue to do terrible we will be the perfect team for other teams to trade with. Pommer, Vanek, Miller, Regehr, Myers, or Stafford "hides, are all pieces that teams will target for the playoffs.

I dont think Ted , Terry or Kim allow him to make one at this point especially anything involving Miller/Vanek/Pommers unless he is keeping his job beyond this season.
Makes zero business sense that involves millions of dollars to allow a man you are pondering firing to make important changes to your business.

IDK man...idk at this point...all I know is that this is a load of bullcr@P
- Sabres2012CUP

Let me ask you this.
If you owned this team right now and you were unsure on whether or not you are going to keep the man that puts together and pulls the trigger on deals for your franchise.
Are you going to allow him to trade away the biggest assets you have on your roster?
I'm not!
The only way any deals of significance are made from here on out is if Ted , Terry and Kim have told Darcy already that he is keeping his job.
No way he does otherwise.

exactly. We will be in good position to get great returns for our "good" players from teams on the bubble trying to make a push. Or teams on top looking for playoff depth

I'm not sure I follow what you are saying...you think that if Darcy's job in unsecure he won't make any moves?

Yes, he will not be allowed to make any moves.
I think we will know by weeks end (at least I will) if he is staying or leaving.
There are certain common sense things that lead me in that direction.

I'm 53 and have sat through every Sabre season since day 1. This team is a joke and an embarrassment to the great hockey fans of WNY. To own an NHL team you have to run it like a business first and fan second. When Pegula agreed to buy the team and closed the deal, he should have looked at it from a business perspective, not from a long time fan who was giddy about the French Connection.

His first job should have been to clean house and he didn't, and he pays the price atm. If he's serious about winning a SC for the fans, he should have shown some back bone and remove under performing employees Ruff, Regier and company, much like any business.

What's left? A team in it's current state of under achieving, over paid misfits and an interim coach who shouldn't be anywhere near an NHL bench. It's fine if you want to fire Ruff, just let Patrick run the team for the rest of the year and keep Rolston in Rochester. This is more in a long line of poor decision making and if it was a business, it would be BK.

As a long time fan I don't even care anymore who plays, how they play, who's on the first line let alone on the 4th line. They are a clueless or-gah-ny-zashun. Sickening!

end rant

First trade Miller. Find a suitor who is close to being a contender and have him waive his MNC
Pominville or Vanek to Detroit or St.Louis, get 1st round picks and young roster players.

Call NYI and make a push for Neiderriter. They are a fringe playoff team, get a big young talent that is in line to produce in 2 years like the rest of our prospects. Give them Sekera and a pick.
Call Colorado and see what it will take to get ROR. If a 1st and Stafford is enough then maybe you make the deal.

I tend to agree with that. They have to strike a delicate balance with these fans. They are still coming out in droves to support this team, and they have to realize that if they trade Miller, Vanek and Pomminville it's over. No one will go to the games. There will be nothing to watch. The season ticket holders and sponsors will have the rug pulled out from under their feet. It could take years to rebuild their confidence in the product. You can't leave thy decision to a guy your about to fire.

Low level guy that is well liked in the room will get moved. Thats the next move and when that doesn't work, Darcy is out the door.

I agree. If Ruff getting canned didn't grab their attention a move like this would..

Might keep them honest for a few games.

Someone that gets it.
Hooray!!
The fans that think a trade right now at this juncture is going to help this franchise is simply grasping at straws.
If however Darcy is fired , then I am on board with trades.
I do not trust Darcy dealing this franchises cornerstones Miller/Vanek and Pommers.

Low level I can see DD.
Anything beyond low level with Darcy could end up being catastrophic and putting this franchise even further behind the 8 ball.

While I dont know enough about rebuilding a team I ask you this. Shouldn't we try to keep our best players? Miller Vanek, Hodgson (not on the first line)

I mean Ottawa kept Alfi and rebuilt the rest and made the playoffs the next year didnt they?

do you seriously think a pick and a spare part defenseman will get you Neiderreiter? This kid is going to end up getting a shot on JT's wing, we're not giving him away for spare change.
