A good offense starts with a good defense. If you can't get out of your own zone, you can't score.
- HonkFortheGoose

The Sabres just need to take the best available player with their top pick this year. I have no problem taking Seth Jones if you think he can be a franchise-type D-man. Those guys don't exactly grow on trees, and nearly every Stanley Cup champ I can think of had one.

I also wouldn't let the fact that some people feel that the organization is deep with d-men affect the decision. Teams tend to get into trouble when they draft for need.

But really - does anyone watch this defense and think, "They clearly do not need anymore help"?

I am not and have not attacked anyone?
I said to you one time that I thought you beat a dead horse putting up the same pictures over and over.
Let it go, its over and in the past.
I forgot about it , you should try doing the same.
Lets not derail this blog with this nonsense.
Lets agree to disagree and move on shall we?

Drouin winger mackinnon center, far as I know. I dunno who I'd prefer between the two. Our organizational winger depth is poop, but centers are invaluable,
- Putzfrau

They say you can always take a center and move them to wing, but not really the other way around.

Yep. Which is why if the organization is confident out of hodge, girg, grigo, ennis, mackinnon they could make enough decent centers and wingers I'm game.

That being said, I am not going to complain if they end up with MacKinnon, Drouin or any of the other top guys. The silver lining to this awful season is that the draft is loaded at the top with potential franchise guys.

But for God's sake, get a real GM to handle the draft!

I think Rolston is trying to get a feel for what Grigorenko is capable of. He's a teaching kind of coach. I think he's going to be a bit of a project for him, but I think he'll be able to get him pointed in the right direction.

McNabb is going to be a very good defenseman but I don't know that I'd call him the "cornerstone" kind of guy.

Besides, if you could have a defense that looks like this in 3 years, would you hate it?

Pysyk/McNabb
McCabe/Jones
Myers/??

The potential that's possessed there is incredible. Doesn't mean that it will pan out the way we want, but it's something to get excited about and look forward to.

The top 10 of this draft is really solid, so unless they go on a run and finish just out of the playoffs, they'll get a solid guy to help build the team around.

It certainly could be. And like I said, at least it's something to get excited about. This team certainly doesn't give us anything else right now.

Hell, I would not even wait that long. I think the organization made a major blunder in not dismissing Regier and Ruff at the same time.

All that they are accomplishing is creating a "See - it wasn't Ruff's fault" narrative by firing him first and then not improving at all.

Keep it simple, play him at rw for now. I've said it many times, center is a tough position to play in the NHL. Asking an 18 yr old to play a 3rd line center role who has defensive liabilities to begin with should never be a option. I get they want him to be a center, but for now play him at rw on Ennis and Foligno's line for a couple of games. What else it there to lose at this point?

Today would work, just move on Terry.

Darcy is nothing more than a YES Man for every owner he has worked for here in Buffalo.

Lets get a GM with some cherries and will continue to upgrade this club and not be afraid.

Having Rolston here is going to be good for Grigs. If anything good can come out of this terrible season, it's having a guy behind the bench now that's great at developing players and teaching them the game.

BTW, Girgensons has been playing wing all season in the A, if that helps.

With there being a possible chance we will lose Vanek and or Pominville after next season I really cant see us passing on Drouin/Mackinnon/Barkov if they are there to take.
